UNCHAINED VALUE - MARY J. CRONIN

====================================================================================

When I read any book, I scribble my comments / notes in the margins

These reflect my views / opinions about what the author is saying – including my disagreement

Often, my comments are in the nature of telling myself :

Hey ! We should try out this idea in our own business ( Head-hunting / Online Recruitment )

Following are my comments re :

UNCHAINED VALUE - MARY J. CRONIN

=====================================================================================

Pg. No. 1

·         I have no doubt WWJ.Com will redefine the rules of online recruitment thru JAM – the Job – alert delivered on mobile handsets.

·         We expect to launch WWJ.Com in 4/6 weeks and my 71th birthday (27 June) might yet witness the birth of a new game with a new set of rules. (May 16, 2004)

Pg. No. 3

·         JAM is all about mass – customization & door – delivery of job – related info to a jobseeker, anywhere / anytime on his mobile.

·         We will need this kind of willingness on part of mobile phone service – providers, who are going to be our business partners.

Pg. No. 4

·         On supply – side, our partners will be jobsite (-and corpo. websites), from where, we will download job – advts. On demand – side, will be mobile – phone service providers, who will act as our “Delivery Channels” to deliver job alerts to millions of jobseekers. In long run, we must ensure that both, the job – sites as well as the mobile – service providers make lots of money thru JAM. They would be like our left hand and right hand.

Pg. no. 5

·         We have no money to spend on customer acquisition & expect mobile – phone service providers to “promote” our content – based application.

Pg. No. 8

·         Someday WWJ must subcontract “spidering” unless it can be fully automated. (18-05-04)

·         For WWJ, this means jobsites on the “Supply – Side” and mobile phone service providers on the “Delivery – Side”. The more the merrier!

Pg. No. 10

·         If JAM really clicks, jobseekers may stop posting their resumes at multiple jobsites. And if jobseekers stop posting their resumes, jobsites will have no “Resume Database” which corporates can search! – So corporates may stop patronizing jobsites!! (20-05-04)

Pg. No. 11

·         We will ensure that JAM is not “locked” into just one set of delivery – channels viz: mobile – phone service providers. Tomorrow, there will be interactive TV / DTH / Set top box & we will tie – up with TV channels. For delivering Job – Alerts to millions of homes.

·         JAM will provide “mobile” competition to established email job – alerts delivered by jobsites on PC / Internet combination.

·         Conceivably revenues from WWJ would, within one year, overtake revenues of 3P after 14 yrs. of existence.

·         Theodore Levitt “If you don’t make yourself obsolete, your competitors will”.

Pg. No. 12

·         When Recruit guru did not click (ahead of its time?), we quickly switched to WWJ. But if WWJ fails to take – off fast, copy – cats are bound to follow. And these could be Monster / Naukri etc. with far more resources! We must attain a critical “mass” of mobile – phone subscribers before this copy – cats get launched. If WWJ catches on, within 6 months, we will prelaunch Recruit guru. By that time, hopefully, many corporates would have received thousands of “Image Builder” resumes (thru JAM) and would want “Guru Search” facility.

·         JAM will connect jobseekers with corporates and fast.

Pg. No. 13

·         Will / can, JAM make Jeff Taylor’s Monsterusa.com to lose its “competitive advantage” if we offer JAM to USA mobile – phone subscribers thru VeriSign / AT & T / Vodafone?

Pg. No. 14

·         JAM will be a true “mass – customization” application.

Pg. No. 15

·         Recruit guru’s customers will be corporates where as WWJ’s customers are jobseekers.

Pg. No. 16

·         Mobile – Service Providers will be our true business partners in WWJ / JAM.

·         Once WWJ has 5 million JAM subscribers, we goldmine of demographic info. We will, then permit / enable corporate Mktg. Mgrs. to “dice-and-slice” this database to zero-in on their niche / target population group and then send-out online mktg. messages to these millions at the click of the mouse! Of course, this will be a pre-paid service! (20-05-04)

Pg. No. 17

·         e.g.: Will JAM subscribers want to see their – Salary Profiles – Design. Profiles – Tenure Profiles etc.?

Pg. No. 18

·         JAM is all about this – except that it is even better since “delivery” is over mobile networks!

·         We want “Image Builder” to be the new currency of recruitment (worldwide), so, we will give it away “free” to those posting their resumes on WWJ.Com.

Pg. No. 19

·         JAM will be.

·         WWJ.Com will be one such aggregator.

Pg. No. 25

·         JAM is tailor – made for internet economy.

·         I expect our web spider to speedily and efficiently download job – advts from hundreds of jobsites. After all job – advts are our “raw-materials”.

Pg. No. 26

·         Between WWJ & Recruit guru, we plan to create a VIRTUAL EMPLOYMENT EXCHANGE.

Pg. No. 29

·         And “Services”

·         Bypassing traditional distribution – channels.

Pg. No. 30

·         DELL has negative working capital, because it receives online credit card payments in advance but pays its component suppliers after 15/30 days! (23-05-04)

·         This is one reason we plan to deliver JAM thru mobile service providers, who will promote.

Pg. No. 33

·         Built-in scalability is the answer.

Pg. No. 35

·         This is also going to be CRUCIAL for JAM. Each mobile service – provider will send-out emails / SMS to million (or lakhs) of its subscribers, simultaneously, to promote JAM.

Pg. No. 36

·         JAM is equally “information-based” (if not more) and each jobseeker will have his own / unique “job-preferences”. A classic case of “mass-customisation”.

·         Job – preferences

Pg. No. 38

·         May be 3 years the line, on World-Wide-Jobs.Com we could say? “Jobsites are History”. As of today, we could say “Job search is History” (23-05-04)

·         What we will become thru WWJ

·         In course of time, we will make WWJ, a full service-provider for recruitment (-in combination with Recruit guru)

·         After we get a million people to post their “Job-Preferences”, we will develop statistical “trends / patterns” on what kind of jobs, jobseekers are looking for.

Pg. No. 39

·         By quickly signing-up with BPL (terms settled) / Tata / Bharti & Hutch, this “first mover advantage” is what I intend to achieve. The rest (BSNL / MTNL / Reliance / Air cell etc.) will be forced to sign-up!

·         In JAM, we want to leave “promotion” to mobile service providers. We are not equipped for this.

·         We are trying to launch JAM without any funding.

·         We have been working on JAM for just 4/5 months now.

·         I started “Alliance – Campaign” just 2 month back.

·         We have just 4 including myself.

·         We will move to USA with JAM offering in 12 months – by June 2005.

·         (23-05-2004)

Pg. No. 40

·         “Job search Unchained”?

·         Our own “Customer Acquisition” will happen thru promotion by mobile – service providers and by word-of-mouth amongst jobseekers.

·         JAM will; ultimately upset the relationships existing between – Jobsites – Jobseekers & - Corporate Job – advertisers.

Pg. No. 41

·         Toyota is set to overtake the “Big Three” of U. S. A.

Pg. No. 43

·         If WWJ does not threaten existing jobsites (-and their revenue-streams) by directly accepting job – advts posting, it is possible that, someday we could convince the jobsites to email job-advts on their own to WWJ, instead of our having to “spider”. We could even get them to send these to us in a from prescribed by us – which would help creation of database easy / fast. We could even share with these jobsites, a small percentage of our own revenue – share from mobile – service providers.

Pg. No. 45

·         Ultimately, WWJ too will attract many other “delivery – channels” to carry our contest.

·         e.g.: TV / Newspapers / Radio / ISPs delivering broadband etc.

Pg. No. 46

·         We want jobsites to exist / prosper and make money. We will help them make more money. We do not want to replace them

·         Eg:  WWJ will provide “Job Mkt. Analysis” content or even “Salary Analysis” content to jobsites (of course for a price), which, they can, in turn “Sell” to jobseekers and corporates.

Pg. No. 47

·         e.g.: Using jobsites for distribution of content to corporates – since they already have strong relationships with corporates. They already have a customer – base. Why not piggy-back these jobsites to their customer – base?

Pg. No. 48

·         AOL / Time Warner

·         CNN / CNBC & maybe soon SONY / MGM? (23-05-04)

Pg. No. 50

·         By offering Job – Alerts on mobile – phones, we too, are planning to “separate” jobseekers from jobsites, where job – related info gets generated in the first place.

Pg. No. 51

·         There was a time, when info about jobs was locked-up in newspapers only, before arrival of jobsites. Now thru JAM, we are providing yet another escape-hatch to job – advts which goes beyond even internet!

Pg. No. 52

·         Once JAM attracts 5 million jobseekers. We will develop demographic profiles (on-the-fly too). Direct Marketers, advertisers, Mktg. Agencies, Ad Agencies etc. can use these to broadcast their promotional messages (for a price, of course).

Pg. No. 53

·         Same “content” delivered to end-users, thru many diff. “delivery-channels”.

·         This is why we will match, every JAM subscribers of “job – preferences” with job – advts. Downloaded during last 24 hours (fresh) and send him job – alert SMS over his mobile, within next 24 hours.

Pg. No. 54

·         In return for filling in Salary / Designation details in “Career History” Section of “Image Builder”. We will offer to JAM subscribers “Salary Profile” / “Designation Profile”.

·         Even for a million customers, a hell of a lot of personal data can be compiled / stored / analysed & displayed when that particular customer returns to our website for repeat purchase / inquiry.

·         We will make available, enormous statistical analysis each month, to

·         JAM Subscribers

·         Job Advertisers

·         Mobile Service Providers

Pg. No. 55

·         An Analysis of “Job Preferences” of JAM subscribers, - Ind. Wise – Age Wise – Func. Wise – City Wise – Exp. Wise

·         Once we have analysed what kind of “Jab Ads” a particular subscriber “Applies” for a period of one year, then we are in a position to “predict” what jobs / companies will interest him in future.

·         (24-05-04)

Pg. No. 56

·         If “Recruit guru + WWJ”, turnout to be e-recruitment “marketplaces”, then, between the two, there will be a huge amount of info about Corporates / Jobs / Jobseekers.

Pg. No. 57

·         JAM is not merely about providing job – related info, but also about “Resume Forwarding” service thru a more click on mobile!

·         As & when we manage to get 10 million mobile – phone owners to register on WWJ, we would have fantastic “demographic” data, would offer to all kinds of direct marketers, Ad Agencies, Corpo. Commu. Depts. etc. for broadcasting their “promotional” messages (-of course, all for a fee).

·         (25-05-04)

Pg. No. 58

·         We must not broadcast / push jobs onto mobiles, in real-time, all thru the day. That would be very annoying to subscribers.

·         When JAM succeeds, there is no question; other copy-cats will follow (especially big jobsites). Trick would be to stay ahead of them thru introduction of new features / services.

Pg. No. 59

·         For JAM subscribers, getting job – alerts on their mobiles, may be the first step but to build with each of them a long-lasting / trusting relationship, we would need to keep providing data info, continuously that would help them “shape” their entire career for 30 years.

Pg. No. 60

·         WWJ would have an “Early Mover” advantage as far as delivering millions of resumes to thousands of job – advertisers at the click of mobiles. To keep-up this advantage, we would soon need to attach with each resume, Interactive Response sheet” so that HR managers can instantly “acknowledge / reply”

·         To each & every resume received. When JAM subscribers (jobseekers) start receiving such “Feedback” against their applications, they would get real “value” from JAM service. (25-05-04)

Pg. No. 61

·         On 3pjobs.com, becoming a “Partner Website” was even easier than Amazon’s Associate Program! Someday, by sharing part of our revenue, we will attract thousands of jobsites to become “Associates” of WWJ.Com. Then we would not need to “spider” job – advts from all – over!

·         We can give 5% of what we earn (as our revenue – share from mobile service providers) to such “Associate Jobsites” whenever a JAM subscriber clicks “Apply Online” on a job – advt. “Supplied” by that jobsite.

Pg. No. 63

·         “Job – Preference” forms will tell us what kind of jobs are in demand. Actual “Apply Online” clicks will tell us, what kind of “Companies / Corporations” is in demand.

·         At a future date, we may allow Corporate Recruit. Managers to “analyse” Job – Pref. Forms database & send – out targeted SMS re: jobs available in their organisation. We will collect money from both!

Pg. No. 65

·         Same with WWJ.

Pg. No. 66

·         I am sure, on all the jobsites of the world put together, a million jobs must be getting posted every day! I believe there are over 40,000 jobsites in the world (“Recruiting on the web” by Michael Foster). The trick lies in making all of them “Associates”.

Pg. No. 71

·         Read my report “QUO VADIS?” prepared in 1988.

Pg. No. 74

·         WWJ is all about aggregating job – advts (from wherever we can find) and making available this info to millions of jobseekers in a “mass – customised” manner on their mobile – phones.

·         This means we must find “ways” to “sell” those dozens of statistical trends / analysis that we would generate with each “Registration” and each “Apply Online” clicks.

Pg. No. 75

·         If giving away for “free” a lot of statistical analysis to both jobseekers and Corporate Advertisers, would lead to many more “Apply Online” clicks, then it would be worth. We can make money elsewhere.

·         JAM would go beyond mere aggregation into – customisation info – door delivery – convenience of a mobile

Pg. No. 81

·         Can we think of analysing / tabulating “Job Preferences” of a million jobseekers and then let Jobsites & Corporates, VIEW are our “Suppliers” of jobs! In course of time, we can introduce a feature whereby a corporate can actually “broadcast” his vacancy (thru us – mobile service provider – Jobseekers) only to those few hundred (or thousand) candidates whose percentile score is, say 80% and above. That would be real “targeted / pinpoint” delivery. We can charge the company for broadcasting and also charge jobseekers for clicking “Apply Online “on their mobiles. To extent possible, we must not “by - pass” service - providers. (26-05-04)

Pg. No. 82

·         Someday, we will have 300,000 corporates frim around the world, to have their “Personal Pages” on WWJ / Recruit guru.

·         We know that companies will not “create” jobs / posts, only because a million candidates are “preferring” such a job but, by broadcasting such “job – such “job – preferences” amongst 100,000 companies, we are indirectly telling them that we have target no. of such – and – such candidates in our database!

Pg. No. 83

·         If, someday, we succeed in getting 10,000 companies to “create” their organisation – charts on Recruitgusr, then we would have tremendous “insight” into what kind of executives would they need and – even when. These (org. charts) will be the “windows” thru which we will be able to “peep” inside their houses.

Pg. No. 84

·         By pooling job – advts & resumes of all jobsites into SINGLE database, we could create such a CONSORTIA / EXCHANGE.

·         Q:

·         Why should jobsites agree to “private databases info ONE COMMON database? Only if we can show / demonstrate to them that, by doing so either (1) They will make more money than today or (2) They can survive without getting “Killed”.

Pg. No. 85

·         A jobseeker cans also vest 6 jobsites & search jobs & apply online.

·         If WWJ was to merely “aggregate” jobs from these 6 jobsites & make entire database searchable (in a traditional method) from ONE / Single jobsite, then, by itself, only some little VALUE gets added.

·         It is by dramatically increasing the “Responsiveness” (by delivering job alerts on mobiles) that JAMS / WWJ adds tremendous “VALUE” to that info.

·         Mere aggregation only changes the “Distribution” of info in the marketplace.

Pg. No. 87

·         Jobseekers too don’t like to visit dozens of jobsites and conduct “searches” for jobs. But what JAM delivers over their mobiles is the “most valuable & actionable” info.

·         We must use this argument to convince jobsites to willingly share with WWJ, their job – advt. database. If they don’t, it will be their funeral!

Pg. No. 88

·         America has “job – aggregating” sites such as Flip dog / direct employers / Employment all / Grassisgreener etc. etc. but in India, WWJ will be the first “Vertical portal” for jobs.

·         That should help convince other jobsites to join us.

·         Integrating (like a clockwork)

·         Guru Spider

·         Job Miner

·         Matchmaker

·         Forwarder

·         Plenty

·         24 hours

·         We must analgise trends / statistics on – what kind of jobs are being “clicked / applied”?

·         Ind. wise / Function wise / Desig. Wise / City wise / Exp. Wise / Age. wise (frequency distribution / Descending order)

Pg. No. 90

·         We “pool / spider / aggregate” the ORIGINAL job advts from jobsites & corporate websites, so “quality and depth” remains intact.

·         We too, need a large no (a million?) jobseekers to register on WWJ. Although we have a support “value-proposition” we still need mobile service providers to do the “promoting” of JAM. Once we have a million jobseekers, I expect that various jobsites will show their willingness to share their job advts on their own and there would be no need to “spider”! Smaller jobsites will be more amenable. They have nothing to lose and everything to gain by giving us their job – advts. After that Monster India / Naukri / Thimesjobs will have no alternative!

Pg. No. 91

·         This is what I mean. If JAM clicks with jobseekers – and millions join – then how long can Monster / Naukri / Thimesjobs hold out?

·         Today’s newspapers say that Monster has bought over JobsAhead.com for Rs. 40 cr. That will give Monster India, 62% market – share.

·         Jobs Ahead claim to have 2.7 million resumes & 5000 corporate clients.

·         (26-05-2004)

·         I have sent a contract email to Arum Tamaki of Monster today. Now the battle is with Naukri.

·         We must continuously work – and evolve strategies – to make “jobsites” (Supply Chain) and “Mobile Service Providers” (Delivery – Channels), more & more profitable. Goal No. 1.

Pg. No. 92

·         Someday, we will make available, “Guru Ad” software free to all those jobsites, who will agree to handover / pass – on job – advts to WWJ in standard form.

·         Even if we succeed in aggregating millions of job – advts on WWJ (one – stop – shopping), no jobseeker would pay us anything to “conduct job search” and “Apply Online” because no other jobsites asks him to pay anything!

·         Jobseekers (hopefully) will pay only because of “convenience” of clicking on their mobiles to forward their resumes.

Pg. No. 95

·         Same is the case with jobsites

·         WWJ / JAM will do all three.

Pg. No. 101

·         e.g.; - If we install Guru Mine extractor “free” on several jobsites, on condition that every resume submitted there gets emailed to us, automatically! Same can be done in case of job – advts posted on other jobsites, using “Guru Ad” tool, installed “free” on those sites. (30-05-04)

·         It is worse in India.

Pg. No. 102

·         WWJ & Recruit guru would be such.

·         Unless some 5% of jobseekers clicking Apply online get called for interviews, it would be difficult for WWJ to build such trust. This % age has to be at least same, as when a person applies online, on a jobsite.

Pg. No. 103

·         In case of online recruitment, websites are supposed to pass on jobseekers resumes to as many corporates as possible!

Pg. No. 104

·         Jobseekers Posting “Job – Preferences” so that we could send them matching job – alerts.

·         Never an issue with jobsites.

Pg. No. 107

·         Why For wham?

·         How?

Pg. No. 108

·         For WWJ, we have separate pages for (1) Process (2) Step-by-step communication Flow.

Pg. No. 109

·         FAQ

Pg. No. 111

·         e.g.: Persons who give us full details of “salary” & Designations” (last 4 jobs), will get to see their “Salary Profile” & “Design – Profiles” again & again, every time they return & login on WWJ.Com

Pg. No. 112

·         For getting to view their salary – profile & Designation Profile, we will insist that a jobseeker must update his resume on WWJ, at least once-a-year.

Pg. No. 114

·         If JAM Subscribers start getting “Feedback” against their “Apply Online” clicks, then they are unlikely to switch to any other similar service.

Pg. No. 117

·         These concepts of Trust / Control / Privacy etc. are alien to India. Look at the “Privacy Policy” of most jobsites – and then you wonder, how millions of jobseekers, agree to post their resumes on these! 43 million unemployed could not care less!

·         So far, not a single controversy in India!

Pg. No. 118

·         All the more true here.

·         This is what Indian jobsites seem to say in their “Privacy-Policy” Statements. Once posted online, a resume is a “Public Domain”.

Pg. No. 119

·         Millions of jobless, desperately hope – and prey that – more & more corporate HR mgrs. will get to read & notice their resumes!

·         (Exactly opposite!)

Pg. No. 120

·         Every jobseeker is made to click on “I Agree to Terms” before posting a resume or conducting a job search.

Pg. No. 121

·         Our idea behind “Interactive Response Sheet” is also to collect data exchanged between a corporate & Jobseeker.

·         We will share “Job Advts Analysis” amongst job seekers, and “Job Preference” Analysis amongst corporates.

·         I hope jobseekers filling-in “Career History” section details feel the same way = In order to get to see their Salary & Designation Profiles, they have to give data about themselves.

Pg. No. 122

·         I hope, motivational incentive to get job alerts as SMS on their mobiles, would be strong enough for jobseekers to provide detailed data about themselves.

Pg. No. 125

·         What “Personal Value” can jobseekers “See” in JAM?

-          One-stop-shopping / World-Wide-Jos/

-          Door Delivery of job-alerts (Time Saving)

-          Unchained from PC / Internet

-          Ultimate convenience (Anytime / Anywhere) Online Apply

-          Not losing sleep over “missed-out” opportunities (jobs)

-          (Hopefully) Feedback from Advertisers

-          Mass-Customization

·         (30-05-04)

·         I hope this happens to JAM.

Pg. No. 226

·         Job Preferences

·         If JAM clicks, we will be able to offer a series of “add-on” services, to both advertisers and jobseekers, in online recruitment. We hope to turn WWJ into a VIRTUAL EXCHANGE.

·         Our problem.

·         Video-interviewing on Mobile-Phones from anywhere OR from interactive TVs from home-is just 5 years away.

Pg. No. 127

·         I plan to give away free, Guru Mine & Guru Ad to jobsites.

Pg. No. 128

·         By riding (i.e. partnering with) several parallel “Delivery – Channels Mobile Service Providers / ISPs / Cable TV / DTH TV / Interactive Broadband TV / Newspapers / Radio stations) etc. JAM will connect “Right candidate whit the right job”.

·         We will get the jobsites to share with WWJ their

         Resume Databases

         Job Advt. Databases

·         I hope, in JAM, the jobseekers get to see the same value – proposition – Especially millions of unemployed graduates of India. Let their resumes flood the mailboxes of HR Mgrs. around the world! Let the world get to know the talent that is India!

Pg. No. 129

·         There are over 40,000 jobsites around the world and over 600 mobile - phone-service providers. For all of them JAM experiment would be of more than academic interest.

·         500 mobile - phones were sold world-wide in 2003. WWJ has the potential to become the single largest “DIRECTORY” of mobile – phones in the world!

·         3 yrs. after this was written, NAPSTER shut down & now emerging in a new “avatar”.

Pg. No. 130

·         In WWJ / Recruit guru, we will try to “capture” the knowledge of thousands of HR managers in framing “Recruitment Rules”.

·         We want to be able to “Predict / forecast” the probability of a “MATCH” between any resume and any job – advt.

·         Once WWJ has a million registrations, we will establish online “communities” of jobseekers having something “common” amongst them.

Pg. No. 131

·         I expect JAM to spread move by word-of-mouth, than by any other campaign.

·         JAM will be a service that is tailor-made for mobile – phone users – who will tell their friends if

-          they start getting relevant job alerts

-          They start getting feedback from corpo. Advertisers.

·         Job Alerts would be “tailored” to a person’s needs.

·         Ability to “Apply Online” with a click on their mobile will be instant “fulfilment”.

Ph. No. 132

·         If corporates start using the “Feedback Form” when they receive each resumes, these criteria will be met.

·         We would be able to tabulate JAM subscribers in the descending order of “Apply Online” clicks for a given period. (Obviously, for some time after getting a job, a jobseeker will deactivate the service – or drastically cut down on “Apply Online” clicks.) Their clicking patterns, will tell our software, what kind of jobs, any given person is interested in & deliver that kind of job alerts.

Pg. No. 133

·         In case of JAM, we have to start the process with a large no. of job – advts downloaded from many jobsites – initially from India / then USA / then rest of the world. And the Entry level / Junior level jobs will be crucial for generating a critical mass of jobseekers

·         Corporate Job – Advertisers

·         Jobseekers

·         Once we analyse the clicking patterns of jobseekers, we too, would be able to “recommend” job – advts.

Pg. No. 134

·         JAM is anyway all about “match – making”.

Pg. No. 135

·         We intend to provide continuous “feedback” to all 3. We should add jobsites as our 4th Partner

·         ------- ------ -------

·         ------- ------ -------

·         ------- ------ -------

Pg. No. 136

·         At WWJ, a visitor needs to “return” only if he wishes to “Edit” his resume or job preferences. But he can neither delete nor remove himself from our database. Activation / Deactivation of JAM service will be strictly as per instructions of Mobile Service Provider.

Pg. No. 137

·         This is a lot of jargon! What ultimately matters to a user is his “online experience” (and may be even offline when he calls up sites helpdesk). Very few people have time to read such lengthy / pious pronouncements!

Pg. No. 138

·         From WWJ, we will avoid any / all “advertisements” No distraction at all.

·         WWJ will generate “trust” if we succeed in delivering over mobile – phones, very relevant job – advts in which a jobseeker is interested.

Pg. No. 139

·         We may however, conduct opinion – polls amongst JAM Subscribers, asking them to rate JAM service on

-          Relevance of Job Alerts

-          Completeness of info.in SMS How recent where the jobs? Etc.

Pg. No. 141

·         In return for giving data about salary / designation (in career History Section), we propose to make available salary & Designation Profiles to a jobseeker. Someday, we will ask for much more comprehensive demographic data from each jobseeker – in return for “Predictions” of different types!

·         In turn, we will make available marketers such demographic profiles for emailing messages

·         (02-06-04) 12th Anniversary of shifting to Marol.

Pg. No. 142

·         Is it possible that rather than pay Rs. 5 for each “Apply Online” click on his mobile, a jobseeker simply notes down the job – advt. no’s and the source (jobsite). Then login & apply online for FREE from the jobsites? Theoretically this is possible but could be time – consuming.

Pg. No. 143

·         We must update the “Function Profile” graphs every night, by processing resumes posted during the day.

·         By providing a Feedback Form, Which, an HR manager can simply click, we are trying to create a “relationship” between a corporate and a jobseeker. But, we will need to provide some incentive to HR Mgr., for caking!

·         JAM satisfies both.

Pg. No. 144

·         If jobseekers want their resumes delivered against relevant / interesting job – advts, then JAM would certainly do it better & faster than any jobsites (our competitors?).

·         Instant “Feedback” from job – advertiser to the applicants, would certainly “exceed” their expectations.

Pg. No. 145

·         Linger – Not required on WWJ! Buy, yes.

Pg. No. 146

·         Will JAM bring – about a “fundamental” shift in online recruitment? Will jobseekers stop visiting jobsites to conduct “Job Search” & then “Apply Online”?

·         And if they stop visiting jobsites (to conduct job –searches) then why would they “post / deposit” their resumes on these jobsites? And, if they stop posting their resumes on jobsites, why would corporates visit these sites – since there are no resumes to be searched & shortlisted? Will JAM change the “Rules of the Game?” if yes, how will jobsites react? – By stopping our “spidering”? That would hurt them!

Pg. No. 151

·         If JAM clicks with the jobseekers, then we can expect mobile – phone providers to market it aggressively.

·         Between them, WWJ & Recruit guru must dominate e-recruitment scenario, worldwide but starting with India.

·         JAM is not an extension of 3P or 3pjobs.com

Pg. No. 152

·         In JAM, we are not merely talking of leveraging the capabilities of Internet but also those of a mobile phone network. In India, at the moment, mobile – phone users are growing 10 times faster than PC / Internet users – and this gap is set to widen!

·         (04-06-40)

·         e.g.:

·         In due course, we will offer “Salary – Profile” & Designation Profile” graphs (along with Function – Profile graphs) to job – seekers, who register for JAM – Free. But, for same, we will charge Corporate Customers.

Pg. No. 155

·         Under JAM, corporates will receive “text” resumes. We will let them upload these on Recruit guru and extract & convert these into “structured Database”, free-of-cost, as a “basic service” but we will charge them to conduct “Resume – Searches” on their own database, using Recruit guru’s search – engine: Guru Search.

Pg. No. 156

·         As we did in 3pjobs.com “Partner Program”, we will once again revive it and enable smaller jobsites to offer “Job Posting” to their corporate clients by “pulling” Guru Ad software from WWJ.Com. And since we do not intend to permit “Job Advts Posting” directly on WWJ.Com. We will happily share our Corporate Database with these small jobsites. We would have compiled a formidable “Corporate Database” within one year, from job – advts downloaded.

Pg. No. 159

·         The first – mover advantage.

·         Starting with JAM, we hope to build a long term relationship with each jobseeker by providing a “Jobseeker’s Corner” where we will store entire “Career – History” of millions of executives – which they can access / edit / update.

·         JAM is not a “free delivery” – but it has a lot of “added value”. Which, I hope candidates will happily pay for.

Pg. No. 160

·         But “online” grocery stores have been losing money heavily – and closing down (Peapod / Web grocer)!

·         Mostly “Information Pro duets or Services” will succeed no the Net – because delivery is digital & instant.

Pg. No. 161

·         We too, plan to create “Corporate Corners” where – to begin with, we will list / tabulate ALL job advts ever released by each company, anywhere.

Pg. No. 162

·         We plan to generate (on-the-fly), “Job Market Analysis” graphs, using job – advts database. We will offer these to corporates for a fee.

Pg. No. 165

·         By teeing-up with a no. of mobile – service providers to deliver to same content (job – advts), JAM / WWJ are, in essence, a “Syndication Service”.

·         Recruit Guru is conceived around this model. Job – related info – is in continuous demand by millions of jobseekers.

Pg. No. 166

·         JAM expects to touch millions of lives. We should know in next 3/4 months. (04-06-04)

Pg. No. 167

·         Jobseekers are already familiar with Jobsites / Job Searches / Resume Posting & Apply online. Nothing new there. But JAM “personalizes” this entire process by “door – delivery” of job alerts over their mobile phones and then offers greatest convenience of being able to “Apply Online” thru a simple click on their mobiles.

·         For us, these are millions (52) of unemployed graduates looking for “Entry level” jobs.

·         Entry level jobs

·         We are trying to do just this thru JAM.

·         Each job – seeker gets to express his “taste” thru filling in his unique “Job Preferences”

Pg. No. 168

·         Today, on e-recruitment scenario, there is nothing comparable to JAM.

·         Jobsites offer (to jobseekers) “free” job searching and “free” (apply online) resume – forwarding service. So jobseekers who have

·         Little / no money

§  &

·         All the time in the world (to conduct job searches at a no. of jobsites)

·         Will not “pay” for JAM service.

·         Only those who appreciate the value of time and the convenience of being “Unchained” from PC / Internet and clicking on mobile – phones anytime / anywhere, will agree to pay for JAM. Then again 2/3 hours daily at a cybercafé also costs. Rs. 15/20 per hour! – so, use of jobsites is not “free” after all!

·         (05-06-04)

Pg. No. 169

·         If different Mobile Service Providers (MSP) charge different “prices” to jobseekers for each “Apply Online” click (that is the sane service which each MSP is delivering) – then the question is, how will their subscribers react? When a mobile – phone subscriber of BPL find out that, for identical service, a TATA subscriber (say) pays only Rs. 2/=, then what is he likely to do? Switch – over to TATA? If so, will there be a “price – war” amongst MSPs?

·         A price – war amongst MSPs would be bad, not only for the MSPs but for Recruit guru as well! Then there is the question of increased “CHURN-RATE”. Might that lead to formation of a cartel of MSPs? Fixing same price for all?

Pg. No. 170

·         So, you need to make your product / service distinctly different from anything available online so that prices cannot be compared! So that people pay you higher prices for a unique combination of features in your product / service, which (combination) they cannot find elsewhere!

Pg. No. 171

·         We are talking of millions of jobseeker and perhaps thousands of corporate job – advertisers.

·         A worthwhile target for us!

Pg. No. 172

·         World-Wide-Jobs.Com’s “World” would consist of

-          Jobseekers (Customers)

-          Jobsites (Supply Chain)

-          Job Advertisers (Content)

-          Mobile Service Providers (Delivery – Chain)

·         Later, our “World” would encompass other “Delivery – Channels” too, such as – TV – Print Media etc.

·         Although, WWJ would not have info on WHO hired WHOM, at WHAT salary, our “Salary – Profiles” would be of great help to both jobseekers and corporate Recruiters.

·         Who bought what at which price?

Pg. No. 173

·         If, earlier, a Recruiter was receiving 100 resumes against each job – advts, now, with JAM, it is quite likely that he may receive 1000 resume! – offering him more “Options” in terms of “Salary” (pricing) to be offered to shortlisted candidates. An element of “dynamic” gets added! Especially, some equally competent jobseekers from half – way round the world, are willing to take-up that job for a much / much lower salary.

·         Now a recruiter can hire from around the world! Best talent at lowest salary.

Pg. No. 175

·         It would be quite “disruptive” if every jobseeker knows everybody else’s “Salary-Especially Salaries” of persons employed by his prospective employer!

Pg. No. 176

·         JAM [CONSUMER TO BUSINESS] Jobseekers empowered with “Ind” & “Company” salary – graphs.

Pg. No. 177

·         Will WWJ / JAM accelerate mobile – phone subscriber base in India? Mobile – phones are much cheaper than a PC / Internet combination (10:1) needed for job search.

·         If recruiters manage to receive 10 times more resumes drive down “Salary - Offered” levels?

·         Will jobseekers “accept” applying-thru-mobiles, based and 150 character SMS job – alert? Once this gets “accepted”, there will be no stopping!

·         I presume Jobsites & Placement Agencies will still flourish after launch of JAM. I hope they do.

Pg. No. 179

·         Fulfilment-rate, in case of JAM will also be quite low, but the probability of landing a job increases in direct proportion to the “No-of Resumes / applications” sent-out! So JAM will certainly be an improvement.

·         An opening a vacancy too, is a “time-sensitive” item. Most job-advts get deleted after 30 days on jobsites. If a jobseeker “misses” (to notice & apply), then the “Window of Opportunity” closes! It is therefore, very important for a jobseeker to keep searching for “suitable” jobs, relentlessly.

·         Will JAM dramatically increase the “churn-rate” – especially amongst call-centres, as more & more employees, keep clicking on their mobiles to find-out what options do they have?

·         “Job-Preferences Analysis” will tell us about the “DEMAND”. “Apply Online” clicks (against each job advts) will tell us re: “SUPPLY”.

·         JAM is all about making jobseekers aware that an opportunity exists, should they choose to act on.

·         JAM delivers

·         More

·         Better

·         Faster (real time)

·         Info about vacancies.

Pg. No. 180

·         This book was written in 2000. In 2004, mobile phone is THE WAY to reach info to millions.

·         Jobseekers – who can be termed potential investors – have made known their job – preferences in advance. When a “matching” job gets posted on a jobsite, JAM, immediately “broadcasts” this info to all interested jobseekers.

Pg. No. 181

·         Level playing field. We want to make job – related info available to unemployed youth in remote areas where even newspapers don’t reach!

Pg. No. 182

·         Thru JAM, a thousand persons are “bidding” for the same job – offering them for employment. Of course, only one person gets the job – It is an “auction” of a kind. Often they are bidding (competence X salary expected).

·         JAM is a 2 – way “intermediation” of totally new kind – delivering job – info to candidates and advertisers.

·         To all jobsites, we will make available “Entry Level / Junior Level Job Posting” interface so that millions of shopkeepers / traders (-and even homes?) can post their requirements.

·         We intend to deliver 5/10 job alerts daily to each JAM user.

Pg. No. 183

·         JAM is all about giving plenty of “Options” to jobseekers – may be a confusingly high number. But we want to increase the probability of his getting a job – any job, if he is unemployed.

·         If JAM clicks, I would not be surprised if we get a call from Jeff Taylor of Monster!

·         (05-06-04)

·         Churn rate.

Pg. No. 186

Jobsites. Why should they agree to pay Rs. 5/= to a Mobile Service Provider (+WWJ) for same service?

·         The trade-off is between Rs. 5/= on one hand and “convenience + time saving + not missing out on any opportunity”, on the other hand. This will take some “selling” initially but once it catches – on, there will be no stopping!

·         Question:

·         How much value do Indian Jobseekers attach to “Time-Saving”? Is it possible that USA is really THE place to launch JAM first?

·         This is true of JAM.

·         True

·         I suppose each MSP will have his own “fixes” re: pricing of JAM on his network. So, there will be several as I noted earlier, jobseekers can search jobs & forward resumes (to advertisers) for FREE, on all prices!

·         Pg. No. 187

·         We would need to keep aggregating jobs from those countries where Indians like to migrate (at least temporarily). USA Canada Australia UK Singapore Malaysia Gulf etc.

Pg. No. 188

·         Physical presence = Viewing a 2000 character advts on a jobsite Enough Information = 150 character SMS job alert (Company / City / Position / Salary / Age / Exp. / Edu.)

·         Timely Enough = Within 24 hours

·         Facilitate Action = Being able to click on handset to forward resume

·         Whether JAM clicks or not, will be known within 6 months at don’t think there will be a half-way-house! It is going to be either “I spar Ya Us par”! (This bank of the river or the opposite bank). (05-06-04)

Pg. No. 190

·         Most jobsites are offering to their corporate clients, some elementary or complex “Resume Management” features-so we may have to do the same if we install the starting point viz: Guru Ad Recruit guru or any other partner jobsite. But on WWJ, we may offer to jobseekers a “Career – Management” feature / software. We will already know, against what job – advts, they are applying and when & maybe “why” (job preferences patterns which are statically derived) (06-06-04)

Pg. No. 191

·         I hope that once JAM clicks with BPL & TATA mobile service – providers, others (Bharti / Reliance / BSNL / IDEA etc.) will want to jump onto the bandwagon – and when they do, they will need to “promote” JAM amongst their own subscribers. Not only will they “market” JAM, they will also “collect” the service-fees, reliving Recruit guru of these two very important, business – processes.

·         The demographic info which we will get to compile will become a major source of revenue from marketers.

Pg. No. 192

·         In our “TERMS”, we are going to clearly state that the info given by jobseekers will be used by WWJ for any other commercial purpose-also that, by registering on WWJ, jobseekers agree to receive emails & SMS from our “commercial” partners”.

·         If millions of people register on WWJ & fill in “Career – History” section, we would be in a position to slice / dissect, “Function / Salary / Desig. / Tenure Profiles” by – Age / Exp. / Edu. / City / Region / Gander / Mobile-Service-Provider / University / Employer-Company-Wise! These subsets would prove extremely useful / relevant.

·         This is why we are saying they will get to see their “Salary – Profiles” & “Designation Profiles” when they fill in “Career – History” section.

·         Pg. No. 194

·         Star-Trek? = Teleporting holographic ally your virtual self to any – where / any – time. Being in many places simultaneously

·         Finally!

·         This happened at end of 2003

·         So we are on the right track.

·         We plan collaborations with jobsites & corporate websites on one hand and mobile-service-providers & other delivery – channels on the other hand.

·         Let them make money.

Pg. No. 195
