When I read any book, I scribble my comments / notes in the margins

·
Wireless recruitment market
of WWJ/JAM.
Page no. xiii
·
Our main idea behind JAM is
to give a level –playing field to millions of jobseekers in remote parts of
India.
·
Employments too-in never
before ways. Thru JAM, more people will give up jobs& more people will find
jobs! Churn-rate will go up!
·
Page no. I hope we (WWJ) are
the next
·
Strange indeed.
·
This will be our USP.
·
Video- Interviewing will
follow JAM-no doubt.
Page no. xv
·
JAM is mobile internet.
·
R-world
·
Our own value chain
-corporates – jobsites –WWJ –MSP~S –candidates Resumes
Page no. xvii
·
Someday, WWJ will “match”
patterns of –job-Advt. profile with Resume profiles.
Page no. xviii
·
When everybody submits resume
everybody benefits thru Function profile/salary profile etc.
·
e.g.; Increasing chum?
Page no. xix
·
Can WWJ become a real “trust
– broker” between candidates & Employers, if both believe in the sanctity
& dependability of function – profile? a kind of third –party Rating system
·
So true of WWJ.
Page no. xx
·
Thru PULL technology,
someday, Recruitment Managers will be able to see “salary profile” graphs on
their mobiles from wherever they happen to be.
Page no. xxi
·
“1984”all over again?
·
Only today I asked Rena to
download email tracking software from
·
WWW. Did them Get.com.
(21-08-04).
Page no.1
·
JAM could not be an
“unexpected” way-since job alerts were being sent by emails already.
·
Page no. cell-phone
integrated with body an extension of body.
·
Hoping other would like it!
Common interest group.
Page no. 4
·
Many executives do not like
to visit employers office for interview due to fear of “exposure” (-since many
candidates are waiting to be interview) They would feel comfortable to get
interviewed from their mobile –screens, in total privacy.
Page no. 5
·
Because you can still remain
in touch?
·
Will such” impetuousness”
drive JAM? Like Mallory`s” because it is there (Mt.Everest)? or become an OCD –obsessive compulsive
Disorder? Reflex action?
Page no. 6
·
When jobseekers get to view
salary profile/Desig-profile etc. or JAM /WWJ, they are “participating”-having
shared their own data earlier-in a communication process which is not obvious.
·
Hence fresh Graduates will be
an important target group for JAM.
Page no.7
·
NTT DoCoMo managed to rope-in
these 30 million in 40 months.
Page no. 8
·
Given India1s job seekers
this will be true of JAM as well.
Page no. 9
·
In India too, millions of jobseekers
are NOT internet-users/Pc-users are growing (2004) at 4 million/vs. mobile
users at 24 million/year.
·
Premise of JAM for us it is
JAM (job alert mobile)
Page no. 10
·
Someday we will enable JAM
subscribers to “forward” their job-alert SMS to others.
Page no.11
·
It is other way around
here-in Aug.20004 we have created WWJ and are trying very hard to convince
India mobile service providers to offer JAM to their
·
This is why we are willing to
share 50% of JAM revenues with jobsites from where we download job advs. They will
join us only if they make more money due to JAM. (22-08-04).
Page no. 13
·
This is precisely why I like
to present data in graphical from eg: function profile/salary
profile/Designation profile/Tenure profile and many others to come. Easy to
understand.
·
Someday we will enable
jobseekers to search for jobs by click on country/state city & even street
maps!
Page no. 19
·
In India, these (gaming) will
remain confined to the children of affluent or youth with money to throw.
Although majority of people are idle, they have no money to waste on gaming.
Page no. 21
·
A feeling of “not being
wanted.” This is why, on WWJ, we put a picture of a young man with a caption
·
“You Are WANTED.” (Wanted by
Employers, of course!)
·
Boosts a person`s self-esteem
sense of self-worth.
·
Someday, we will preceded
JAM, with subscriber`s own photo-to personalize.
Page no. 22
·
I suppose by now this must
have changed
·
Page no. 25
·
Aneree just turned 13, when
she got her cell-phone Anokhee got it when she was 16.
·
We will create dozens of such
common interest groups, from members of WWJ.
Page no. 26
·
Feeling of “belonging”
·
Will our function profile
“percentile-score” become a MENSA like status symbol amongst executives? How
can we bring that about? I suppose this can happen only if Recruitment managers
attach importance to this score
·
Fixing-up an interview is
quite like “fixing a date.”
Page no. 30
·
WWJ is a virtual community
where, by sharing their own personal data, each member benefits from the GROUP-PROFILES
this sharing (of personal data) enables, each member to figure –out his
own “STANDING” amongst FEERS
·
Over a period of time, we
will use this forum (WWJ) when members will contribute their knowledge to
build-up HUGE knowledge Bases
Page no. 31
·
On typical job sites, a
person does not benefit from others who have also posited their resumes there.
·
This is where WWJ differs
thru its PROFILE-GRAPHS. The greater the no. of members, the richer the sharing
of knowledge-base. I hope this aspect will make more & more to “participate
& share - a kind of voluntary co- operation.
Page no. 32
·
In WWJ, only those who
contribute by sharing their own data (resume) will be able to view the PROFILE
of course. We will also “SELL” profile to HR managers.
Page no. 33
·
My challenge will be to
convince millions of jobseekers to take “collective Action” of
depositing their resume on WWJ, so that all may benefit. But we will not permit
FREE RIDERS” to benefit.
Page no. 34
·
Unless a jobseeker renews/re
– validates his resume once –a – year, we may not permit him to view the
PROFILES but that may not be necessary since unless voluntarily updated
frequently a jobseekers PERCENTILE score would get distorted as membership
grows.
Page no. 35
·
Increase /decrease in the
market value of any given script/share is, by itself (standalone) of little
significance, unless compared with increase/decrease in the stock Exchange
INDEX. Ever thing is relative.
Page no. 37
·
Yesterday, I send emails to some
I persons, who have entered their annual salary as Rs.500/= presumably to be
able to view, overall “salary profile.” such few “Black sheep’s would need
monitoring- or we will “dis – member “them!! We cannot let them CHEAT the
system.
·
Data bases?
·
WWJ?
Page no. 44
·
Re- in forcing a behavior
·
Tomorrow I should send an email
to all those who have registered so far on WWJ exhorting them to fill-in “Job
pref” & then see the salary profile. I must set in motion a VIRTVOUS
CIRCLE. (22-08-04).
Page no. 47
·
Getting thousands to submit
Resume on WWJ would be such “collective Action.”
Page no. 48
·
Back in 1958, at uni: of
Kansas, I attended a one week course on “programming by punch- cards.” For
several years thereafter, I retained that stack of cards!
Page no. 59
·
A parallel “effect” (exponential
growth) can be
Ø Downloading jobs from 10 job sites & delivering to 5 mobile
service providers
Ø From 50 job sites & delivering to 15 service providers.
·
WWJ is in same category.
·
Worldwide, there are 40,000 job
sites & 600 mobile service providers – having between them billions of
nodes viz: jobseekers & corporates.
Page no. 60
·
In WWJ the “nodes” are
Ø Millions of jobseekers
Ø Thousands of employers
·
Page no. 61
·
On internet job sites are
“sources” of “content” called job-advs. They are all competing for “users”
called jobseekers. Jobsites compete for users to visit them.
·
On WWJ, various graphical
profiles are “jointly constructed values.”
·
In Napster, individuals
exchanged specific “songs” in WWJ executives will exchange “salary Data” in an
aggregated profile witch will benefit all participants. (22-08-04).
Page no. 64
·
If- and when- everybody has his
own “Image Builder” it would cease to be a “status symbol.” By then, we would need to come-up with “Image
Booster.”
Page no. 65
·
Obviously when jobseekers
submit their resumes on WWJ, they are not “losing” their private/personal data
to anyone but, still, everyone gains from everyone else`s data!
Page no. 66
·
What kind of “computing
platform “would WWJ need, if it has to daily match a million new job- advs.
with 10 million jobseekers job-preferences?
Page no. 67
·
On WWJ, anyone who downloads
his “Image Builder” also gets to download (FREE)-email ID database of 42000
corporates +1000 placement Agencies. I am hoping this “carrot” would generate
similar response. In one week 1500 so far!! 80 peace.
Page no. 71
·
If we can deliver function
profile graphs ………………………………..
·
On mobiles- and then enable
youngsters to
·
MMS their graphs to friends,
with a cryptic “GUESS WHO? “ that might ignite!
·
This could be a young
person`s” signature”
·
SMS is not an “underused
technology” –nor is job- alert a new application but the marriage of these two,
I hope would turn out to be a killer App.
Page no. 72
·
When people submit their resumes
on WWJ, it is for their own benefit. They are not providing salary Data for the
benefit of others. They have no choice. But everybody benefits never the by
viewing “salary- profiles.” (22-08-04).
·
In 2004, Apple`s I Tune has.
Page no. 73
·
We will continue to control
the “central sewer” really the only sewers - of WWJ and we have no legal
problems because job- Advs. which we download from jobsites are public domain.
Page no. 75
·
No “free-riding” in WWJ!
“Benefits” will be scaled according to the amount of personal data each person
shares.
Page no. 77
·
I propose to send email
circular “jobsites DO Not Remember” our software will remember every job
against which a person sent his resume and try to establish “patterns” for each
person. Then we will compare “patterns with Resume”!
·
HOW?
·
Track Pattern
·
Recognition
Page no. 78
·
We too have planned to store
the names (& resumes) of all the persons who clicked “Apply online” against
each interests” They are all interested in same job.
·
No such problem for WWJ.
·
Patterns of “bidding” for a
job can be established. Some correlation can also be established vis-à-vis the
“job-preferences. In WWJ filling –in “job-preferences” is mandatory.
Page no. 79
·
The ultimate “co-relation”
can be established, if we know who/ which candidate got that job! Then we can,
statically “predict” who has what chance (probability) of getting any job advs.
That would be a truly “killer App.”
·
Every “Apply online “click
Rest are “Rejects.”
Page no. 80
·
And dumb terminals.
Page no. 83
·
I believe this fig. is close
to 600 million in 2004 & expected to touch 1 billion in 2010 (today’s news)
(25-08-04).
Page no. 84
·
Compared to this, pointing a
remote at a job-advt. appearing on interactive TV and clicking, in order to
forward your resume to the Advertiser, would be simple.
Page no. 86
·
Since chips in mobile-phones
(or devices) will broadcast (or narrow- cast) their presence to the surrounding
area, competent candidates (corporate CEO`s?) can be traced by headhunters, any
time!
·
There will be huge
information overload assaulting our senses.
Page no. 87
·
With millions of mobile
–phone no`s of jobseekers around the world in its database, what would future
hold in store for WWJ? It is frightening!
Page no. 88
·
Electricity flowing thru our
houses/cars/roads offices etc. is hardly noticeable!
Page no. 89
·
Sounds great but for some
people returning to the relating of their “physical world” after such a may
prove unbearably depressing!
Page no. 95
·
This means if my mobile-
phone has an URL, I can transmit it to a pc or (interactive) TV nearby- thru
which, I can transmit my resume against a job- advt to which I am pointing my
mobile.
·
So a recruiter can “click” on
a photo a candidate & “browse” him (stalk) anywhere in the world?
Page no. 103
·
In 1967, at L&T we had a 16
k, I BM 1401 which occupied a large room.
Page no. 105
·
Imagine a Recruitment manager
interviewing a candidate. He is looking at the candidate’s Resume on
computer-screen. Computer flashes “questions” that he should ask the candidate.
Computer also “records” & “evaluates” candidate`s answers! (27-04-04).
·
“Not enough jobs” is by far
the biggest problem.
Page no. 110
·
To a small extent JAM does
this.
Page no. 111
·
Our attempt will be to
capture the wisdom/knowledge of thousands of Recruitment managers, by capturing
the questions that they ask the candidates & creating a “data base” – a
Knowledge base =of such questions, for each “vacancy.” we can also captures the
answers given by the candidates. Recruit Guru will be platform for capturing
our idea behind making image Builder the new currency of recruitment.
Page no. 112
·
What wishful thinking! At HIT
perhaps! Linking candidates thru mobiles (JAM) is a small step-in the right
directioin
·
Would there be any advantage, in
using JAM to “connect”
·
Corporate with corporates? ( e.g.:
checking candidate “antecedents”) – candidates with candidates?
Page no. 114
·
If “scale of co-operation” on
WWJ goes up to million, there is reason to believe that personal Analytics of
JAM (function Graph/salary Graph/ Tenure Graph etc. become the REFERENCE –
COORDINATES for jobseekers –and others too.
·
JAM emerging as “EMPLOYABILITY-
RATING” system
·
Recruiters & candidates
separates by 10, woo miles entering into job- contracts, without first meeting
each other.
Page no. 116
·
Function profile/salary profile/tenure
profile, are going to become “high quality re commendation” & WWJ will
develop a reputation for making these available to corporates (link a
Dow/NASDARQ index )
·
I hope some will do this for
WWJ.
Page no. 117
·
See “Refer to friend” on WWJ.
Page no. 118
Ø On WWJ, we plan to show, against each job-advs.,
Ø No. of job-alerts sent
Ø No. of candidates who clicked “Apply online” against
·
This is an “implicit”
recommendation (we have applied!)
·
We plan to create a personal
history of all the jobs against which he ever applied. This “profile” will help
our “match. Maker “software to predict, what jobs, he could be
interested in. (city wise/ind-wise) Func. Wise/Desig.-wise/salary wise etc.
etc.
Page no. 126
·
May be at some time in future, we
will create an “popularity index” for each job=advertising company PI= (No. of jobs x Alerts/job) this can be company &
·
No. of “send” clicks displayed dynamically.
·
Could also be called “Reputation
Index.” This should be visible to corporation as well to the candidates
·
Will a high Repu. Index of a
company makes more candidates to apply?
·
Calling “Reputation” or”
popularity” Index, may hurt companies so, we will simply call it a “Response
Index”- which is like a raw score- if we compile “Raw scores” of thousands of
companies, we can also compute a “PERCENTILE” score!
Page no. 129
·
How can we get thousands of
Recruitment managers to start “exchanging notes” about their + via experiences
of functional profiles?
Page no.131
·
“Submit Resume” is a tool. “Profiles”
are range of services. Thru this “tool,” thousands will cooperate to create
there “SERVICES” there is no cheaper way to create there SERVICES.
Page no. 132
·
This is precisely what
WWJ/JAM is! And it is only the beginning!
Page no. 135
·
JAM is “untethering the web”
Page no. 136
·
JAM would be one.
Page no. 138
·
Between 2001-2004, approx.
$40 billion worth of 3G Network Asserts owned by these companies got sold to
Chinese, Indian, Korean, Russian companies for a more $ 3.4 billion, since 3G
failed to take off.\
Page no. 139
·
Like asserting right to breathe “air”
Page no. 144
·
I hope WWJ can make jobs-
from –around the world, available to employable youths in far flung rural areas
of India- and later, to such youths everywhere. (29-08-04).
Page no. 150
·
This would spell death of
dozens of industries
·
So, no need for any mobile
service provider then JAM would change too. How do we collect fees from JAM
users- if there is no HSP? May be by issuing our own “prepaid” card?
Page no. 151
·
I have predicted death of
“wires” (inside homes) in my 1988 report “QUOVADIS?
Page no. 158
·
About “half” in India In Aug.
2004, India boasts some 35 million mobiles in a population of over 1010
million.
Page no. 159
·
His is interesting also true
of India.
Page no. 160
·
What “esprit de corps” can we
invoke amongst India`s jobseekers? Assuming some have cell- phones-what can
bind them together? (Let jobs follow you) – stop chasing jobs
·
On your mobile visit world
wide- jobs worth emulating example.
Page no. 162
·
Those without jobs belong
here.,
Page no. 164
·
How do we start such a
“cooperation Epidemic”?
·
Jobseekers?
·
What is the “payoff” for any
person to forward our SMS or email to his friends?
·
The “ego “of being the first
to have discovered WWJ? To lay his
“claim” of being “FIRST”?
Page no. 165
·
Worth writing to.
Page no. 179
·
For –each jobseeker, we would
create 1). Function profile 1). Desig. Profile 3). Salary profile 4).Tenure
profile; with PERCENTILE for each profile. Is it beneficial/meaningful to
construct a COMPOSITE – PROFILE, for a person? Whom will it help & how?
Page no. 187
·
Read my today`s note to Abhi re:
“Happy Birthday” we are offering carrots to visitors, in return for email ID`S
of friends/relatives. (30-08-04).
Page no. 189
·
our software only knows, who
is getting what job alerts & who is applying against which alerts – but a
method to find a method to figure out,
who is getting interview calls from whom & who is getting appointed where.
·
Jobseekers may not think in
these terms consciously& yield to our design. They are already used to
“Apply online on all jobsites thru a pc. We are merely replacing pc with a
mobile. (30-08-04).
Page no. 191
·
Quite so!
·
Turn off the cell-phone –like
me. But people don`t because they are afraid
of “missing-out”/being left-out from something vital/important!
Page no. 192
·
Would Func. Profile graph give
this feeling to job seekers when they see these for the first time?
Page no. 194
·
For all businesses,
competent, humans would be the key “differentiators” while competing. Corporates,
who can hire, better executives faster, would get a “completive Advantage. This
may lead to a rush for video Interviews on the mobiles & other mobile
devices
Page no, 195
·
Somewhat of a “contradiction
terms”
·
Business calls vs. calls from
friends vs. call from colleagues.
Page no. 196
·
Just look at the emails almost
rude/impolite/ cursory disrespect ful! “Reverence” of multitasking! The new god!
Page no. 197
·
Thru WWJ/JAM, not only must
we bring “hope” into the lives of millions of unemployed around the world –but
bring about a distinct possibility to turn that hope into reality. It would be
cruel to tell people, they have no hope of getting a job!
·
In India incoming is free
under CPP regime.
Page no. 202
·
With mobility, (thru mobile
devices), this would become a wild –fire!
Page no. 203
·
Last week TRAI (telecom
Regulatory Authority of India) & this week DOT (Dept. Of Telecom-Govt. of
India) denied mobile service providers, inter- circle, interconnect facility.
This will only benefit BSNL/Bharti & Reliance –at the cost of consumers!
·
Cell- phone being main device
(31-08-04).
Page no.204
·
Jobsites may feel threatened by
WWJ but in fact they will grow/prosper because WWJ will now deliver their
content to millions-who were earlier, deprived of this content.
·
Day after tomorrow, Microsoft
will launch its own online Music store. But, to play music down loaded from
MSN, you would need a device which is WINDOW MEDIA compatible MS is following
in the footsteps of Apple`s iTunes/ iPod
paradigm. (31-08-04).
Page no. 205
·
Thru our various “personal
analytics” profiles, we are attempting to “design” just such a “Reputation
system.”
Page no. 206
·
We will not allow HR mgrs. to
view a given persons profile- although, they will be enabled to view the
“Aggregate” profile of entire population/sub-sample.
·
E.g.: can there be a back-
lash/revolt against WWJ? I don`t think so.
Page no. 207
·
Instead of advertising in
newspapers. May be HR managers will use “Relayed SMS, “Inviting candidates to
appear for “WALK-IN” interviews within one hour! Spread this message amongst
your friends.
Page no. 208
·
Mobile phones will link
jobseekers with WWJ.
Page no. 212
·
Could my today`s note (Happy Birthday) fall
in this category? (31-08-04).
·
WWJ/JAM will address this “disparity in
opportunity” by making available to unemployed “job opportunities” existing in
far corners of the Earth.
Page no. 213
·
This is the “promise” of
various profiles (in WWJ). But it is not so apparent or explicit. It will take
2/3 years before this “Reputation system gets recognized as such and embraced
by all.
·
I hope people will think this
way about WWJ where everyone benefits even if they join for reasons of
selfishness (getting a job)
·
I have used this would on
page “Refer to friend” on WWJ
Page no. 214
·
I have to “sell” this idea to
jobsites/newspapers etc.
Page no. 215
·
Job Advs. around the world are
too far scattered on thousands of job boards and may be millions of corporate
websites. This “scatter” makes it nearly impossible for the most “needy” (-and
may be for the most “suitable”) to “access” this data.
·
WWJ attempts to “aggregate/concentrate”
these and then deliver only the “most relevant content” to millions, over their
mobiles. So, WWJ is, at once, like a typical “search Engine” a mobile “Delivery
mechanism.” This may sound, opposite of “de centralization” & (maybe)
emergence of a new “concentration of (information) power. But it is a
non-zero-sum game. (31-08-04).
