 ====================================================================================

When I read any book, I scribble my comments / notes in the margins

These reflect my views / opinions about what the author is saying – including my disagreement

Often, my comments are in the nature of telling myself :

Hey ! We should try out this idea in our own business ( Head-hunting / Online Recruitment )

Following are my comments re :

=====================================================================================

Pg. No. XI

·         No more after 7 years of writing of this book! In 2003, it is IE 6.0.

·         (30-11-03)

Pg. No. 3

·         The profoundness of Recrutguru lies in the way corporates will store resumes (-and search, too) in 10 years from now.

·         Arun Netravali predioted fast month that by 2010, meeting of broadband connection will cost more than providing broadband service!

·         India work – up late – in 2002 / 03.

·         Read my report “QUO VADIS”, prepared in 1988.

Pg. No. 6

·         It is obvious that people who dream / think of travelling to distant galaxies in a “Space – Ship”

·         Will never make it! – Their terms of reference are “Sea & Ship”!!

Pg. No. 7

·         Device – independent access.

Pg. No. 9

·         “What is use to a new – born child?” – Michael Faraday (Inventor of electricity / dynamo)

Pg. No. 10

·         We launched 3pjobs.com on 14 Nov. 1997. But my concept notes go back to 1994 / 1995.

·         But today IE has 95% market share – also given away FREE.

·         How can we get Recruitment managers to grasp the “concept” behind Recrutguru – as a “Recruitment Process Platform”?

Pg. No. 12

·         Where we went wrong in 3pjobs.com :

·         We kept the same pricing / same revenue – model, as we did for our OFFLINE business.

·         We are trying a new “Pay – per – use” pricing on Recrutguru. –and the new technology of .Net.

Pg. No. 15

·         My concept of a machine called “OOPS” – in “QUO VADIS” (1987).

·         This is expected to come out commercially in 2005.

Pg. No. 16

·         Yesterday, Arun Shourie (Commu – Minister) launched SIFY’s internet – based Video -0 Conferencing at Rs. 5/ min this will change all the rules of interviewing of candidates from remote places. (30-11-03)

Pg. No. 17

·         Hopefully, by 2005, we can get some of our consultants to operate from their residences –with low fixed salary + high performance – linked pay.

·         BPO is picking up in India at a furious pace.

Pg. No. 18

·         Recrutguru is selling a virtual “Self – Service” on the net, with low support cost.

Pg. No. 19

·         What happened to 3pjobs.com, which tried to cling to its “brick & mortar” revenue – model, in Virtual World!

·         In India alone, cell – phone population is growing @ 1 million / month, during last 6 months & expected to reach 100 million by and 2007 (from 25 mill. today) china already have 250 million today ! (30-11-03)

Pg. No. 22

·         This was long before the dot.com bust of April 2000.

Pg. No. 24

·         A Job – Alert “agent” will track / match resumes with job – Advt from around the world, in WWJ.

·         “OOPS” in “QUAVADIS”.

Pg. No. 31

·         In Recruit guru’s “SUBSCRIBER FLIGHT – DECK”, a subscriber can anytime view his (1) Usage / Consumption (2) Credit – Balance of his account.

·         Self – Service.

Pg. No. 34

·         Still at experiment stage in 2003!

Pg. No. 35

·         Also predicted by Arun Netravali.

Pg. No. 36

·         In India, VSNL got sold to TATA in 2001 but BSNL / MTNL are still to be privatised. (1-12-03)

Pg. No. 37

·         As of yesterday SIFY is providing Video – Conferencing at 100 Cyber – Cafes for Rs. 300/ hour (each participant) – on Internet. Used to be Rs. 3000/ hour!!

·         The two wheels of our business chariot are – computers (inch – network) & - Telecom both of which are dropping.

·         Incoming already are even on cell - phones.

Pg. No. 38

·         Happens now – CDMA.

·         Only 20000 DSL connections in India so far & may be equal no of cable (TV) internet connections.

Pg. No. 39

·         We are already at this stage in 3P for over 3 years.

Pg. No. 40

·         2 months back we gave cell – phones to all of our consultants – and their productivity has vastly gone up!

Pg. No. 41

·         Situation in India is still same, 7 years after this book was written. But last month saw a “Unified Licensing” of Basic services (POTS) & Cellular services – and now Minister Arun Shourie is talking of “Unified Access System” – Which will include internet telephony – in next 6 months. (1-12-03)

Pg. No. 42

·         Read my note: “The Nature of our Business”.

Pg. No. 43

·         Read my note: “Image Builder – the new currency of Recruitment”.

Pg. No. 48

·         Jobseekers will also need / want to upgrade their “Image Builder” Resumes every year. Once they are locked – in, they will pay!

Pg. No. 49

·         I presume “Web Service” wills the next profound change – which will accelerate “delivery over the bext”. Delivery of a service – not mere software.

Pg. No. 51

·         Locked – In.!

·         On Recrutguru, we recommend “IE 5.5 or better” for best results!

Pg. No. 52

·         But still, Netscape lost out to Microsoft – because it did not have an operating system, too.

Pg. No. 53

·         No more!

Pg. No. 55

·         Which he did – and won.

Pg. No. 56

·         Read my proposal “Win – a – Prize” for S/W geeks to suggest new logic for Guru Mine.

·         We do not plan to reveal our software to Beta Testers. We only want them to “Convert” their own resumes using Guru Mine, check – out what fields could not get extracted & then suggest NEW logic / algorithms for the same.

Pg. No. 57

·         This centime.

Pg. No. 58

·         Birth of “Web Service”

Pg. No. 59

·         Hardly anybody does – even in 2003! Screen is just too small.

Pg. No. 60

·         E.g. :

·         Our own 3pjobs.com (an utter failure).

Pg. No. 64

·         We oar abut to use a Web – Spider which will, automatically download job – Advt – from 6 jobsites. This “aggregation” will help us launch “World-Wide-Jobs.com”.

Pg. No. 65

·         Converting plain / email resumes into a structured, searchable database too is a “ultra – specific” use – of interest to HR mgrs. only.

·         Mass – Customization

Pg. No. 70

·         Unlikely now!

Pg. No. 74

·         Recrutguru will we be the only site where a HR Mgr. can get to see / download an Image Builder version of resume.

Pg. No. 76

·         So apparently, it was up & running in 1996!

Pg. No. 78

·         “Cross – Selling” is the reason.

Pg. No. 79

·         By 2003, most of the online “Food – Stores” (grocery – stores) have closed down – because of the delivery – logistics costs.

Pg. No. 80

·         By 2003, quite a few online “Exchanges” have cropped – up (Steel / Car parts etc.) but still struggling.

·         Global R2R could not be born!

Pg. No. 82

·         If Recrutguru succeed in getting 200 Placement Agencies to subscribe, this will be our next step. Read my note: Project OCTOPUS.

·         Collective Purchasing Power. (Large Volume)

·         Executive Search Assignments.

Pg. No. 84

·         Aggregation of Resume Searches.

Pg. No. 88

·         World – Wide – Job – Com

·         Match – making between a

-          Corporate’s Needs (as articulated in job – Advt) &

-          What Skills Candidate has to offer (as stated in his Resume)

Pg. No. 89

·         We plan to introduce a “Match – Index” between

-          Job – Advt with a given resume, and

-          Resumes with a give job advt.

·         (2-12-02)

Pg. No. 91

·         E.g. :

·         Being a “Recruitment Process Platform (Recrutguru)”, rather than being a recruitment agency!

Pg. No. 92

·         Equally true of Executive Search firms.

Pg. No. 93

·         Now available.

Pg. No. 108

·         This would be very useful for me! And I suppose, an electronic book will be easier to hold while reading – and writing in the margin. This book is not. (03-12-03)

Pg. No. 111

·         Recrutguru may not be much different!

Pg. No. 112

·         Since publication of this book, that “threat” appeared in the form of NAPSTER. Music Industry has succeeded in stopping Napster, for a while only, as new sites appear.

Pg. No. 113

·         It would appear that at Rs. 2/ resume conversion & Rs. 5/ search, Recrutguru is a kind of “paperback (cheap editor) of Resume – search on jobsites! Now we must wait & see if this idea clicks!

·         (03-12-03)

Pg. No. 114

·         But yesterday’s news report says, pirated CDs of Microsoft’s next operating system (LONGHORN) are available in streets of Kuala Lemur for $ 1.58 each – ONE YEAR before this OS is due for launch by MS !!

·         In World–Wide–Jobs.com, we will download job – Advt. From different jobsites, aggregate these & then “Republish” these but we will quote the source of each job – Advt / Name of each Advertiser with email ID / & we will offer this service “FREE” (no commercial gain).

Pg. No. 115

·         We will be somewhat like a “Directory service”.

Pg. No. 119

·         I always wondered why Bill Gates did not think of this (permission to steal) for his book “Business @ Speed of Thought”! He has no use for petty royalty, in case!!

Pg. No. 121

·         We are an “Information Industry”.

Pg. No. 123

·         This the idea behind availability of Software Applications / databases etc. online on “pay per use” basis, rather than spending millions & all your desktop.

·         Yet to happen in 2003.

·         I never thought in these terms but it is a very real possibility!

Pg. No. 124

·         Equally applicable – if resumes (of Indian executives to begin with), were in one / unified / searchable database.

Pg. No. 126

·         This is the reason, I have repeatedly suggested to Sanjeev to focus marketing campaign (for Recrutguru) to those corporates (incl – Placement Agencies) who are existing “Subscribers” of Monster / Naukri / Jobs Ahead etc. these firms are already advertising their job – vacancies on jobsites and are, already receiving thousands of email resumes. This scenario makes them “ideal” target for selling Recrutguru. (03-12-03)

Pg. No. 127

·         Which did happen in March 2000?

Pg. No. 136

·         Read my note on “Project Prepare” – which we will implement on WWJ.com.

Pg. No. 144

·         We wish to go one step ahead and aggregate jobs from various jobsites on WWJ.Com, so that jobseeker need to visit only ONE website! No more searching jobs on dozens of job – sites. One – stop – shopping!

Pg. No. 145

·         This is where our “Web – Spider” & “Auto – Converter” will automate this business – process without human intervention. Match – Indexing will do the rest.

·         May be I will, after launch of WWJ.Com!

Pg. No. 150

·         On Recrutguru, we have prices, Resume extraction at 2 cents and Resume – Search at 10 cents.

Pg. No. 152

·         Microsoft’s “PASSPORT” ?

·         All kinds of SMART CARDS have already appeared.

Pg. No. 154

·         Whom Geoffrey Moore Calls “Visionaries” in his book “Crossing the Chasm” & “Inside Tornado”.

Pg. No. 157

·         We already know that persons having Credit Cards Spend much more than persons carrying cash.

Pg. No. 158

·         Subscribes of Recrutguru will be able to see their credit – balance any times online.

·         Our Prepaid / Pay – Per – Use model.

Pg. No. 159

·         Already happening.

Pg. No. 165

·         This is why I am keen to get Image Builder (and its future versions) to replace plain / email resumes on the internet.

Pg. No. 192

·         Around Sept. 2003, Apple’s “iTunes” service sold 2 million songs (downloads) @ Go cents each in 2 weeks – which is bound to drop further.

Pg. No. 193

·         This is will also apply to resumes & may be job advt. Grou Ad will help distribute job advts. To a wide variety of media.

·         It did finally in mid – 90s.

Pg. No. 195

·         @ Rs. 1/ resume, our extraction – software is dirt cheap.

·         Question: will it bring critical mass (of subscribers) to Recrutguru – in turn, to spred like wild fire ?

·         (8-12-03)

Pg. No. 198

·         To differentiate World-Wide-Jobs from other jobsites we will

1)    Not send out conventional email job alerts to PCs

2)    Send only “Prepaid” SMS job alerts on Mobiles

3)    Sand once – a – day

4)    Send graphical profiles of Advt. Matching a subscribers resume (Match – Index)

5)    Send detailed job – Advt thru email to his mailbox

Pg. No. 201

·         This seems like a great idea! I am surprised, why this has not happened so far – 7 years since this book was written!

·         If movies can be delivered to millions of TVs over cable.

Pg. No. 203

·         Now they have flooded the market in 2003.

Pg. No. 210

·         Our attempt to create World-Wide-Jobs.Com by downloading job – advts from several jobsites, could have some totally unexpected outcomes

·         It is conceivable that World-Wide-Jobs.Com can suck – in resumes at an exponential rate. Much will depend upon the geographic – spread of the jobs / vacancies aggregated on WWJ.

Pg. No. 211

·         Under “Project Manhattan” we were down loading job – Advt from one jobsite & posting it on another jobsite – but in 3P’s name. Even though it was obvious that these were “fake”, we still got a lot of resumes. Now imagine a situation where jobs are REAL & many thousands & around the world!!

·         Jobs moving to where people are instead of people moving where jobs are.

Pg. No. 215

·         Online lottery is catching – up India. (17-12-03)

Pg. No. 217

·         I have mentioned this in my report “QUO VADIS”. (1988)

Pg. No. 224

·         Recruit guru’s Image Builder makes a “diagnosis” of the candidate, thru its Function Exposure Profile even thought, somewhat crude. It is a beginning.

·         This profile will be followed by many other profiles (Salary / Design. Level / Tenure etc.).

Pg. No. 225

·         Could same thing be said about “exploding population but shrinking job = markets” in developing countries?

Pg. No. 227

·         We too would be able to plot “trends” in job – Advt & in resumes, over a long period, to dissever hidden “patterns” & then make “predictions” based on those patterns.

Pg. No. 228

·         This is what we are doing with “Function Profile’s with ever growing “sample – size (population)”.

Pg. No. 229

·         About to come true now in 2003.

·         We plan to be the largest resume database in the world.

Pg. No. 231

·         Similar to our planned “Interview Mgmt. Module”.

Pg. No. 232

·         We too could do such “predictions” based on historical data of thousands of “successful” & “Failed” candidates. Simply patterns – recognition.

Pg. No. 233

·         Jobsites, already, capture “Employment – History” of millions of jobseekers. They can diversify into “Medical – Histories”

·         We would like to make a beginning by conducting “interviews” of candidates spread all over the country – from 3P’s office. Next step Simultaneous Video – interviewing by experts located at different places.

Pg. No. 235

·         When Recrutguru Software ranks keywords in a resume & prepares a graphical Function Profile, it is entirely objective & non – judgemental.

Pg. No. 241

·         It is 8 yrs. Since this was written and we are nowhere near this! Nearest is 13 language handhold translator which. I read about last week. Very useful for travellers. (18-12-03)

Pg. No. 254

·         X-Mas, 2003.
