THE NEW POSITIONING – JACK TROUT

====================================================================================

When I read any book, I scribble my comments / notes in the margins

These reflect my views / opinions about what the author is saying – including my disagreement

Often, my comments are in the nature of telling myself :

Hey ! We should try out this idea in our own business ( Head-hunting / Online Recruitment )

Following are my comments re :

THE NEW POSITIONING – JACK TROUT

=====================================================================================

Page no 4

·         Same problem with jobs & jobsites.

Page no 5

·         It is no different with resumes-just few hundred words- being used trquentby.

·         Time many come: why brother to remember –just use & forget”

·         Worth quoting in one of my emails to jobseekers.

Page no 6

·         This book is dated, 1996! Trent could not have imagined the situation in 2004.

Page no 7

·         We man to deliver just 5/10 jobalret SMS [160 characters] daily on mobile.

Page no 10

·         I suppose a 160 character SMS [job-alert] would be just the right amount of information to hold & process in few seconds.

·         Our jobalret comprises:

·         1/ name of employer 2/city 3/position 4/edu.qwli 5/age 6/exp 7/so wee 8/ ref.no

Page no 11

·         In a jobalret, we are essentially “editing “a 2000 character job-adv.& it to 160 character “Essence”

·         I presume this tendency of people being selective, should help JAM find acceptance amongst jobseekers.

·         Some people may simply “not subscribe “to JAM.so we just cannot “push” it on to them –like TV advs.[NO defense!]   JAM will be voluntary.

Page no 12

·         If they do [subschema] even after receiving 10 jobalret they may “open “just one or two, for reading,

·         Even after opening & reading 5 they may click only one or nine.

·         Obviously a parson not looking for a job is not going to subscriber to JAM.

Page No 13

·         I was sin Rajkot on that day even though I don’t remember which year.

Page no 14

·         What exactly is the “past experience” of a jobseeker?

·         Hundreds of job divots which search-results throw-up, on jobsites –each 2000 characters long.

Page no 15

·         In JAM a jobseeker will experience “brevity / simplichey”-something which sharply “contrasts with his past /undesirable experience.

·         By end of this week we should know, how 15 TATA executive

·         ‘Feel about JAM.

·         In my emails, I have repeatedly painted the “horror “of visiting dozens of jobsites & endless job searches.

Page no 16

·         We have some “eye catching” titles for each of my email-to around introvert.

Page no 20

·         Read my email to be sent what matters most?

Page no 22

·         In one of my emails [yet to we sent] I have compared total no.of job advs. on internet adding up to 500 mt.Everest!

 Page no 23

·         Who known from how many jobsites, are we downloading job-advs. We simplify by simplify by saying, world-wide-jobs-“

·         Job-alerts delivered on your mobile you apply from your mobile, on –the go!

Page no 24

·         Almost all jobsites can deliver jobalret as emails in your mailbox so far only NAUKRI claims to deliver on mobile-but in a quite clumsy way and then there is no “apply online” from recipient’s. Mobile.

Page no 25

·         E.g.: Sony‘s Walkman /VCR etc.

Page no 27

·         This means wide-spread acceptance of JAM will come gradually.as mores people start using it & hear from others about it.

Page no 29

·         Where we have a large no.of persons registering on WWJ we will put-up a counter on homepage which reads “no registration during” last 24 hours.

Page no 45

·         Someday “applying” for a job from your mobile, would come to be called. “JAMMING”[ JAM KIYA KYA ]JAM KAR DIYA!

Page No 53

·         I am still unable to figure-out, what would happen to JAM, if each mobile-service provider, adopt very different” tariff” for what is essentially SAME service? Or, will it be that TATA would set the price for all those other MSP that follow? How will they try differentiating?

Page no 54

·         If WWJ/ JAM become synonymous with job alerts, it may not succeed with BRIDE / GROOM / alerts!

·         IDEA “WWWJ”is job-alert company [wwj] is not merely a backstage unknown “content-“provider “to mobile companies [e.g.; ringtone content].

Page no 63

·         For precisely this reason, my one focus during next 6 months would be to convince and tie with as many mobile service providers, as possible.

·         Once we launch JAM people would be able to compare us [WWJ] with Naukri’s’ jobalret on mobile service & see our superiority.

Page no 64

·         Read in our library pramod khera’s classical book “FRANCHISING “excellent.

Page no 65

·         For- wwj/jam, it is not a question of “re—positioning” it is simply “positioning”asa pioneer of a new category,

·         Wwj has promise-of “fresh job arts daily” neither yesterday’s’ / nor duplicates.

Page no 68

·         A really huge, nation-world “distribution/ delivery network is what wwj too would need,

Page no 69

·         Is JAM an “every day cake”? Can it become an “every day cake”? It so, for  whom?

·         It is obvious that competent / much-in demand /high flier executives will not need JAM-except perhaps occasionally when they are on lookout for a better job. This situation will arise, may be, once in 2-3 years.so they will remain an occasional user.

·         It is really those millions of not-so-competent / not so much in demand / mediocre-or-even-“unemployable “jobseekers, who would be the biggest users of JAM ON DAILY-BASIS. They are a desperate fot,

·         Recently, for 2 vacancies of peons in a govt.office [salary-RS.5500/=pm] some 10.000 people applied APPLICANTS included CAs/MBA/engineers, besides many graduates! This then, is the main “market “for JAM // then there is it /ties [call center] employees who change jobs every 6 months. 21/09/2004.

Page no 71

·         Tenacity / perseverance/ patience.

Page no 72

·         Now broken up./ merged?

Page no 73

·         This is our USP as well.jobs from the entire world.

Page no 74

·         So do us on wwj.

·         We have neither at present.

Page no 75

·         We are currently downloading.job-advts from only 3 India jobsites. But we are just over 5 weeks old! There is no question that, we will soon need to include 20/30 jobsites from around the world.

Page no 87

·         Star’s’kaun banana groerpati”was quickly followed by shows by Sony & zee TV – both of which termed out to be huge flops,

Page no 88

·         It would be different with JAM.A mobile subscriber cannot switch back and forth and between service provider [the way people can change channels] - even if all service- provides are offering identical JAM.he is locked in,

·         If we manage to tie up with all map before arrival of first competitor to WWJ, now would he deliver his content?-unless some of the msp discontinue /part company with wwj and switch-over to our new competitor. To is a possibility of course.

Page no 91

·         In jam, this advantage is “built-in since we send alerts, once-a-day for jobAdvts downloaded during last 24 hours only. If a jobseeker chooses to ignore, today’s alert, he cannot see them [and act upon them], tomorrow it is gone forever!

·         Because of this [fear of mossing/ losing the alert forever],I feel that ,a jobseeker would tend to “play safe “-and click “play online” even if he is not 100% sure that is really a job that he cares for! It is better to spend RS-3/5, rather than “repent” next day. 21/09/2004

Page no 94

·         WWJ for jobseekers. Recruit guru for employers.

 Page no 95

·         Image builder: corporate recruiter’s only choice.

·         Resume. HR, managers nothing else will do your resume beyond compares.

Page no 102

·         In foot, to turn -off this “communication “most people press the “mute “button-to turn off sound ! Do,

Page no 106

·         Some even read passages aloud.

Page no 108

·         On an email to 979 jobseekers, which have so far, posted their resumes on WWJ, I wed,

·         “Image-builder: corporate recruiters, only choice”

·         This is why you don’t know what the Advt is about even after viewing it many times you can’t “hear”& register a sing le sound.

Page no 109

·         This figure must be closer to 200:1 by now.

Page no 111

·         We chose JAM & image builder [ for job alert on mobile ]

Page no 112

·         This is least true of URL:

Page no 113

·         We decided to name our company ‘recruit guru”

Page no 114

·         I believe recruit guru would meet these criteria but JAM & image builder would require explaining.

Page no 115

·         I had originally coined “butterfly” to signify its beauty and haw such a beauty emerges from a cocoon [i.e. text resume]

·         Image builder conveys what a resume is supposed to do for the jobseeker-vis build his image.

Page no 116

·         JAM: the only job alert on mobile.

Page no 119

·         “Sakura “photo film had to change to “Konica “when they discovered that sakura flower’s color fades over a period of time –which association took hold of a camera –buff’s mind !

·         Who then went and bought FUJI.

Page No 120

·         We have decided that, in order to “apply online,” from his mobaile,a, subscriber would need to type out the Advt.net.no.next to the world.

                                JAM 12349

·         SO, jam would, over a period of time, get deeply ingrained in the psyche of each subscriber few will remember the company [recruit guru] behind JAM.

Page no 129

·         WWJ/jam/ image builder-all fit this category & delivering job-alerts on mobile is a new technology.

·         For us, “we are selling JAM-jobalret on mobile’

Page no 130

·         Even though, we may be the first to deliver a jobalret and a mobile, it want become a new category unless USERS take to jam in a big way.

Page no 131

·         We are focusing on”delivry on mobile /apply online from mobile.

·         With arrival of “organiz”function sales of PPA have started declining & expected to to tally vanish by 2010 already smart phone sales at 12 million in 2003 have over taken PDA sales.

Page no 132

·         Also true in case of JAM, which cost something [even Rs 1/

·         Whereas email jobalret are FREE.

Page No 133

·         With TATA, we just decided: JAM- SUB [subscribe] JAM-UNAUB [unsubscribe]

·         Will others who follow us, be forced to name their “delivery service” a JAM or JAC [jobalret on a cell?]

Page no 134

·         Can we claim that what image builder does to an old fashioned, plan resume. Is what “cosmetic surgery” does to an old /wrinkled face?

Page no 135

·         youthful / Energetic/ vibrant image builders? We will certainly claim this once, we Can we say, we are in the business of “rejuvenating “pale & tired resumes in to also add “salary-profile “&”tenure profile”& “career profiles “to the existing “function profile

Page no 146

·         WWJ is “against” visiting jobsites to conduct candles jobseavehes, day after-day. We want to kill jobsesreh.is history!

·         So, JAM must remain in news” all the time not possible.

Page no 147

·         That’s us!

·         This is why I am holding on writing to editors & journalists. WWJ has to have a good “measure “of success before going to press-say 2 tie-ups [TATA +BHARTI] + 10.000 / subscribes.

·         May be we could get TATA’s PR dept.to throw a party for journalists once 2000 TATA mobile owners subscriber to JAM.same with us.

Page no 150

·         I suppose there will be many jobseekers, which have time & patience to visit many jobsites every day and find “suitable” jobs on their own. They don’t trust matchmaker.

Page no 151

·         In my emails I have spoken of “your 24x365, personal software agent-who never goes to sleep”.

·         Our pitch too.

Page no 155

·         We should put this below each promotional message.

·         Shall we “own” the category by claiming “most relevant jobs come searching? For you-on you’re mobile. The rest are irrelevant”

·         [JAM-for relevant jobs”]=for relevant job-alert”

·         [JAM = only relevant job=alert]

·         Dream jobs have been overused

Page no 156

·         This is our concern right now! 22/09/2004

Page no 157

·         “JAM is world –wide –jobs and vice –versa “

Page no 165

·         Why stick your neck out if it is going to be chopped off?
