IN SEARCH OF THE OBVIOUS - JACK TROUT

====================================================================================

When I read any book, I scribble my comments / notes in the margins

These reflect my views / opinions about what the author is saying – including my disagreement

Often, my comments are in the nature of telling myself :

Hey ! We should try out this idea in our own business ( Head-hunting / Online Recruitment )

Following are my comments re :

IN SEARCH OF THE OBVIOUS - JACK TROUT

=====================================================================================

Pg. No. XIII

·         Sometime back, I came across VisualCV.com. it enables “customization” of resume. But in V2.0, of India Recruiter, I propose to take this (customization of resume) to a new level and, hopefully, this should bring, candidates to register. We should know by Dec.

·         (09-08-09)

Pg. No. 2

·         At this stage (of development of India Recruiter V2.0), I think, it is “obvious” that candidates hate filling-up long “Submit Resume” structured forms. So, we will revive the parsing software of RecruitGuru.com to parse the “TEXT RESUME” & automatically fill-up the FORM.

·         (09-08-09)

·         Apparently, Timesjobs.com has done this already! So, once again, we will become “Followers”!

·         Is that too, obvious that candidates “hate” to be conducting endless “job searches” on jobsites? Would they love, if jobs came searching for them? So, deliver “matching” jobs to them! Obvious Solution?

·         They would be, even “happier” if recruiters start phoning them!!

Pg. No. 3

·         We could not find 2 files in the source-code of Guru Mine (Resume Parser). But, in Customize Resume, we did break-up the “Submit Resume” form info 2 parts, where the first part asks for minimum info

·         (13-08-10)

·         From our website, we have been sending out daily job-alert emails to some 1300 regd. Candidates. These are somewhat broadly “matching” jobs.

·         Today we will upload a modified job-alert page, which. Candidates can view on their mobile phone screen – and apply online. We will do this with help from siteOnMobile.com (a HP lab India) venture I hope this turn the tide!

·         E.g.: getting candidates to register on India Recruiter.

Pg. No. 4

·         I believe, it is part of “human-nature”, to depend on the “recommendations” of “EXPERTS”, while taking a decision. For this (obvious) reason, we will build into V2.0, a strong “Recommendation System” for Job-Searches & Resume-Searches, learning from the past usage history of the “Searcher”. We will also take into account, the frequency of usage of search-parameters, employed by SIMILAR users.

·         (10-08-09)

·         Habit of searching for suitable jobs on Naukri / Monster / Thimesjobs

Pg. No. 6

·         Some 5 yrs. ago, we developed “Resume Parsing” (RecruitGuru.com), for the benefit of HR managers but it did not click. May be we were ahead of the rimes.

·         Now, I plan to integrate Resume Parsing in V2.0 of India Recruiter, - this time for the benefit of jobseekers. I hope, time is ripe!

·         (10-08-09)

·         But, we will need to rewrite the S/W!

Pg. No. 8

·         GM declared bankruptcy past month!

·         (10-08-09)

·         Am I, too refusing to “SEE”, that jobseekers do not want to “Apply online”, with Profiles which are “unflattering” – with low Percentile score? I have suspected this for a long time. I am only hoping that with “Mass-Customization” feature, candidates will only use most favourable & flattering Profiles. They will have a choice to leave out the POOR-LOOKING profile.

·         Early this week, we provided a feature so that candidate can “hide” the graph from recruiters.

Pg. No. 9

·         In Customize Resume, we have partly solved this problem by getting RSS feeds of job-advts from Naukri / Clivkjobs / times jobs. This adds about 1000 job-advts. Daily.

·         (13-08-10)

·         May be, in V1, we too, tried to pack-in too many features!

·         What good is a job-portal, without sufficient “Job Advts.” or “Resumes”? who would want to visit it for

1.    Keywords Defined

2.    Compose Job Descriptions

3.    Compare Your Salary

4.    Interview Questions & Answers

5.    Share Your Knowledge, etc.?

Pg. No. 10

·         Have

Ø  World-Wide-Jobs

Ø  Recruit Guru

Ø  India Recruiter

Ø  Global Recruiter,

·         Been, more “EGO-TRIPS”? Or are these “ideas ahead of their times?”

Pg. No. 12

·         We have tried to build Customize Resume around this idea. But after nearly 9 months, we have only 1300 candidates registered – and very few have tried to generate 8 graphical profiles and customize.

·         (13-08-10)

Pg. No. 13

·         “Mass Customized Resume” – is this an “obvious” idea? Is it obvious that every individual wants “individuality”?

·         Is it obvious that every jobseeker wants to “stand apart” from the rest of the crowd?

·         Whereas in V2.0, we will leave out unwanted / peripheral “Features” & focus on the “CORE”, viz: jobs & resumes what about millions of Rs. That, we may still require advertising / publicizing V2.0? We did not spend any money to “advertise” V1.0.

·         Can we still manage to ramp-up V2.0, WITHOUT advertising move? Is this a mistake, we are condemned to repeat?

·         (10-08-09)

·         I am still looking for that HOLY GRAIL; i.e. grow big & fast, without advertising (for which we have no funds). Will mobile-based, job-alerts, bail us out? Will it generate BUZZ?

·         (13-08-10)

Pg. No. 14

·         I don’t need to worry about wall-St. or Board or Employees. I am only worried about running out of TIME! I just turned 78!!

·         (13-08-10)

Pg. No. 16

·         Customize Resume is our V2.0 – But still there is no sing of traffic.

·         (13-08-10)

·         On V2.0, with fewer – and more relevant – CORE features, I hope, we will get more traffic.

Pg. No. 26

·         And everyone does. This is the reason, I am asking Site on Mobile Team to configure JAM (Job Alert Mobile) Taskelt in such a manner that to pull a job-alert onto his mobile serene, a candidate will only need to punch

·         #2 / mobile no / #3

·         See my today’s email to Revathi of HP Lab

·         (13-08-10)

·         No need to remember user ID / Password.

Pg. No. 33

·         Once, the first hundred jobseekers “customize” their resumes (V2.0), will they feel strongly enough to tell their friends about this? For this to happen, we will need to make this (customization), a truly compelling service.

·         (12-08-09)

·         This has just not happened.

·         (13-08-09)

Pg. No. 34

·         Why should jobseekers “buy” the “customizable” resume? Do they have a “reason”? I can think of only ONE reason. Will “Customized Resume” get them many more interview-calls? If it does, V.2.0 will click!

·         We never spent any advts money for V1.0 India-Recruiter. Nor do we have any money to promote V2.0!!

·         We will continue our promo email campaigns + blogs on social networking sites / e-zine sites + free classifieds + downloadable Guru Mine – and wait!

·         (12-08-09)

·         By posting my “comments” on other people’s blogs / articles, during last 6/8 months, I have managed to get 26480 “backlinks” to Customize Resume.

·         (13-08-10)

Pg. No. 35

·         Our “current profile graphs” dramatically differentiated us from our competitors – but still, it did not click (400 resumes in 2 ½ years!). But in same period, nearly 1200 corporates signed up as “subscribers”! They may have seen some “value” in those graphs. I hope, “customization + automatic parsing of text resume will make V2.0, the “RIGHT” product – for the candidates.

·         We, too, have sent millions of promo emails – without much traffic!

Pg. No. 36

·         JAM, (which I am trying to re-launch from platform of Customize Resume), is entirely a WEB-based service. May be, we will still need to “advertise” it thru some “non-internet” media

·         (13-08-10)

·         I always skipped on TV.

·         But, what if the “product” itself, is a “web-based” SERVICE?

·         We plan to track-and keep history-of all the job searches (by jobseekers) and resume-searches (by Recruiters). Then use this data as basis of our “Recommendation System”

·         I am asking Priya to start on this next week. Might take 2 weeks to implement.

Pg. No. 37

·         We started with - (Customize Resume – The End of Plain Text)

·         2 weeks back we changed to – (Customize Resume Rethink Your Resume)

·         (13-08-10)

·         Resumes on thousands of job-portals look the SAME!

·         Shall we title V. 2 as?

·         Global Recruiter

·         Where you customize your Resume

·         Where no two resumes look alike

·         Customize your Resume / get noticed.

o    / Get interview – call

·         Let us try this

·         (12-08-09)

Pg. No. 38

·         By itself, “Global Recruiter” would convey to a visitor that it is yet another job-portal! And, maybe he has already visited a thousand other jobsites! So, he is unlikely to take any further interest to “explore / discover” the difference.

·         This means, right under the TITLE on each & every page, we must incorporate a punch-line / a slogan, which catches visitors’ eyes and at once

·         Explains the “difference”

·         How that “difference” will help him get a job

·         (13-08-09)

·         We have some 60 / 70 rotating slogans on customize Resume

·         (13-08-10)

Pg. No. 40

·         Ultimate reason = get interview call

·         Intermediate reason = Get Noticed

·         That’s “why” = customize your Resume – the difference.

Pg. No. 42

·         Will a “customized” resume help a jobseeker get a job? That is what he wants and that is why he is visiting jobsites – not to entertain himself!

Pg. No. 43

·         Will a “customized” resume, “impress” the recruiters? If yes, then jobseekers would want to have one / send one.

·         E.g.:

·         “Customize your Resume / Impress Interviewers / Get Job”?

·         May be better

Pg. No. 45

·         For a jobseeker, the “Obvious” reason is to “Get a Job” – not “Search jobs”

Pg. No. 74

·         Customize Your Resume / Impress Interviewers / Get Job

·         De Beers

·         Coke

Pg. No. 48

·         Other than VisualCV.com, no other job-portal offers “customization” of resume. And, in case of Global Recruiter, it will be a true customization. With 10 graphical profiles, which can be in FACTORIAL N [N or N!] combinations, one can get 36, 00,000 different customizations of same resume

·         (13-08-09)

·         BMW?

·         Visa (I read a little while ago)

·         Papa John

·         What can it do for me? Can it get me a job?

·         Only 3 days back I detailed note / logic for our planned “Recommendation System” Software.

·         (13-08-09)

·         “Customizable” would be an attribute of resumes on Global Recruiter.

Pg. No. 50

·         I have used this example in one of my promo email to recruiters (“We try harder”)

Pg. No. 52

·         Will this line be more “direct / effective” than Naukri

·         “Guess who has heard from us?”

·         Of course the TV Ad is quite “dramatic”.

Pg. No. 53

·         “Customize Your Resume – Impress Interviewer – Get Job!

·         (Arrow Symbol Stands for “Leads to”).

·         Is this dramatic enough?

·         Is “Getting Job” exciting? With unemployment rising all over the world, I suppose “getting job” should be VERY EXCITING!

Pg. No. 56

·         Customized Resumes get Interview-calls / others get “Thank You” notes!

·         Is there a around “Getting a job”?

Pg. No. 57

·         Global Recruiter

·         Where You Customize Your Resume to get Interview-Calls.

Pg. No. 59

·         Would TATA’s purchase of Jaguar & Land Rover, fall in this category?

·         Tata’s closed Doon JLR factory within 1 year.

·         (14-08-10)

Pg. No. 60

·         Global Recruiter should be all about “Customize Your Resume”; not about “Job Aggregation” or Resume Blast”.

·         We must “OWN” the attribute of” CUSTOMIZATION” before any other website.

·         What an irony! After months, hardly any jobseeker seems interested in “customization”. On other hand some 100,000 + resumes have been “blasted”!! There is no way of predicting what will work on internet. In 2/3 months, we should know whether JAM catches the fancy or not.

·         (14-08-10)

Pg. No. 61

·         Terra Fugia have booked 100 orders & expect to deliver their first flying car sometimes in 2010 – for $ 200,000. Moller is following hot on their heels. Even a small time industrialist from Rajkot has booked one!

·         (13-08-09)

·         Now the delivery is expected by mid2011.

Pg. No. 62

·         In last 1 year, even some Indian Manufacturer have started making “smartphones” – and at half the price of Nokia / Motorola / LG / Samsung.

·         Now smart phones are growing fast.

·         4/6 weeks back, they launched Apple iPhone 4 –selling like hot cake! It is a first VIDEO-PHONE

·         (14-08-10)

·         In Global Recruiter, we are giving up many features – esp. IIT.

Pg. No. 63

·         Only yesterday, GM (new) announced its electric car “Volt”, which will give 100km / Litre of petrol!!

·         Works on electricity as also petrol.

Pg. No. 65

·         JAM will be our NEW positioning – if Taskelt works (assisted by SiteOnMobile.com of HP Labs India). If that catches up, would that “dilute” our position on “customization”? Who knows! It might even “accentuate” / fortify.

·         (14-08-10)

·         JAM is meant to “obsolete” job-search, not obsolete resume!!

Pg. No. 69

·         We shut down WWJ, nearly 5 yrs. ago – despite being “first – to – market”. About a year back, Naukri / Monster / Thimesjobs have introduced (1) Job Alerts on Mobile & (2) Apply online from mobile (what we did 5 yrs. back). Now I am trying to “re-introduce” JAM thru CustomizeResume.com. Say not the struggle nought availed!!

·         (14-08-10)

·         A man has to live. For that he must continue to hope for a better tomorrow.

·         We are trying to “create a new category”

·         Our “customers” are jobseekers

·         The “customization” which we are attempting, will make us “unique”.

Pg. No. 70

·         May be, we should prepare a video, comparing a

·         Plain text resume with a

·         Customize resume, - then upload it on video-sites.

·         How would a “customized” resume help a jobseeker (our customer)? By “getting noticed” (by recruiters) from amongst thousands of similar plain text resumes. – Thereby improving his chance of “getting a interview-call”

·         Hence “Get Noticed = Get Interview Call”

Pg. No. 71

·         An absolutely true! With no money for advertising, I am hoping some miracle will happen! Will Taskelt-assisted JAM become the Tipping Point? Will HP Lab India (in venter of Taskelt) go all out to promote JAM, so that, in turn, JAM promotes a “successful application” of taskelt?

·         (14-08-10)

Pg. No. 72

·         Naukri / Monster / Thimesjobs – all – claim to 10,000+ candidate registration per day, on their websites! With this kind of traffic, perhaps they do not see any “reason” to associate their websites with “Job Alerts on Mobile” – although, they offer this feature. They hardly advertise / promote this feature. So, in minds of candidates, they do not own “JAM”. That could be our chance.

·         (15-08-10)

·         Author’s own jargon!

·         Some more jargon!

Pg. No. 73

·         Other that VisualCV.com, no jobsite is offering “customization” – and visual CV is unknown in India.

·         Our “position” has to be “Customize Your Resume”

·         I believe, Indian jobseekers are aware of only 3 jobsites

·         Viz;

·         Naukri – Monster – Thimesjobs. And these do not offer customization – although, they do permit posting of different “VERSIONS” of text resumes.

Pg. No. 75

·         Customize Your Resume – Amaze Interviewer – Get Job

·         I have been only sending promo emails – 99.999% of which probably got deleted as “SPAM”.

·         To “Get Job”.

Pg. No. 76

·         If you are unique, your resume has to be unique!

·         We can’t claim this, with Naukri / Monster / Thimesjobs already offering JAM for last 1 year

·         (15-08-10)

Pg. No. 77

·         In 2007 / 08 / 09, I posted, may be 50,000 advts.

·         Re; India Recruiter on dozens of FREE Classified websites. Now for last 8 months, I am posting my “comments” on other people’s articles / blogs etc. – which got 26500 backlinks for Customize Resume. But now, I am feeling tired!! How long can I go on like this?

·         (15-08-10)

Pg. No. 79

·         ·         Now by TATA.

·         India Recruiter is a shade of yellow.

·         In Customize Resume, we adopted shades of blue.

Pg. No. 81

·         With Taskelt – assisted JAM, we plan to reach-out to some 500 million, low-end, non - GPRS, mobile phones, to give them (the owners), their FIRST experience of internet. They don’t have PC / Internet device. Will JAM get ingrained in MINDS as their “THE INTERNET EXPERIENCE”? If we succeed in pulling this off, it will be a marketing COUP!

·         (15-08-10)

·         The goal is to “compete against Non-Consumption”

·         If we succeed these JAM users may never want to “Search Jobs” on job portals using conventional device of PC.

Pg. No. 82

·         The trick therefore will be to make low-end mobile-owners “comfortable” with JAM

Pg. No. 84

·         CustomResume.com (this URL is not available)

·         = Customize Your Resume – Amaze Interviewer – Get Job

·         “Customize-Resume.com” is available. It is also

·         This name at once tells you, what the site is all about; what it will do for you. Breaking the two words by a hyphen -, makes it very easy to read & grasp the meaning. Getting the word “Resume” into the URL will also help with search-engines

·         Self-explanatory.

·         I will book it no Monday.

·         (14-08-09)

·         Just now booked on internet!

·         Some 2 weeks lock, I also booked:

Ø  NaukriOnMobile.mobi

Ø  JobsOnMobile.mobi

·         At 2:30am!!

·         15-08-10)

Pg. No. 85

·         Global Recruiter

·         Does this name convey any “Product Benefit”? Wouldn’t “CustomResume.com”, make for-more sense? (Like VisualCV.com?)

·         “Free Resume Blast” & “graphical resumes” do differentiate us from other job-portals. But that is not enough. It has failed to generate traffic! Now, I am betting on JAM. We should know in next 2/3 months.

·         (16-08-10)

·         This year became the biggest car co. of the world.

Pg. No. 86

·         When you want to be sure, send customized resume.

·         Customized Resumes get noticed-and fast!

·         Parsing of text resume & then auto-filling of form.

·         We have not been able to make a beginning on this.

Pg. No. 87

·         Today, Rohan suggested that in JAM, we must try to deliver reasonably “matching” job-alerts, even to those mobile-owners, who have NOT registered. They will type [JAM keyword city] and pull the alert. If we succeed in this, it may “differentiate” us.

·         (16-08-10)

Pg. No. 88

·         This mean, “Customize-Resume.com”, should continuously add “new” features of “customization” – {but not [new features / new methods] of “Job-search” & “Resume-search”?}

·         No IIT /

·         No “Keywords Defined”

·         No “Interview Questions”

·         No “Compose Job Description”?

·         (This might still be needed for Job Posting).

Pg. No. 89

·         Hardly any candidate provides more data beyond “Registration-Basic” (which develops 1 graph). If he were to fill-in “Registration-Detailed”, that would generate 8 graphs. But no one seems to be bothered! So there is no question of asking STILL MORE data, so as to generate 15 graphs!!

·         (16-08-10)

·         This category has given us MAX Registrations in last 9 months!

·         This means, we must remain focussed on “Experienced IT / Non-IT Professionals” & forget about

Ø  Fresh Graduates

Ø  Clerical / Admin staff

Ø  Workmen

Ø  Retired prof.

·         Etc. etc.

·         I think this is VERY TRUE.

·         We must not dilute our brand by trying to be everything to everybody! Stay focussed.

·         (15-08-09)

Pg. No. 90

·         Once JAM gets launched (on Customize Resume platform) we must be prepared to spend Rs. 1 lakh (at least) for some offline advertising.

Pg. No. 91

·         For entrepreneurs without money, it is the only tool!

Pg. No. 94

·         This is why on “Customize Resume – Free Trial” page (which will also be the home-page), we will display a SAMPLE MASTER PROFILE, which, visitors can play around with, and generate as many “customized” versions as they may want. This will give a LIVE DEMO of what we claim. Somewhere, no this page, we should write:- “We invite competing job-portals to copy us!

·         We do have a LIVE DEMO page and also this slogan-but it seems it may take many years for the concept of Customization to take roots.

·         (16-08-10)

Pg. No. 95

·         For Indian jobseekers too, Naukri.com “Institution” – not a mere job-portal! To upset Naukri, we will need to “reposition” it, like:

·         “On leading job-portals your plain text resume is no better than Dead-Sea Scrolls. Undecipherable. To make it come alive, customize”. Get it to recruiters!

·         We have placed this slogan on our site.

Pg. No. 97

·         All three competitors (Naukri / Monster / Thimesjobs) have

·         Millions of resumes

·         Millions of job-advts.

·         These are their “strengths”. We don’t have these – so better not talk about these in comparative terms. Our own strength will be “customization” – which is their weakness. We have to exploit that.

·         We must own the attribute of “customization”

Pg. No. 98

·         What is a “competitor’s mistake” and what is a “competitor’s weakness”? Of course, Naukri / Monster / Times can parse resumes & create “Customized Profiles” just – as well or better than what we will do – and they can do it in much lesser time!

·         They have enormous resources. And, make no mistake; they will do, if they find that we are getting hugely popular amongst jobseekers & recruiters. In an online business, every move / feature is out there up front & transparent. There is very little you can keep secret!

·         (15-08-09)

Pg. No. 99

·         If “customize-Resume.com” becomes hugely successful & starts diverting resumes from the big THREE, it is entirely possible that one of them may approach us to buy-out our “technology”! Not because they cannot develop it on their own but because, it would be much faster to “buy” in order to take “lead” over the other TWO!

·         So much for my wishful thinking!

Pg. No. 100

·         For a foreseeable future, the BIG 3 are unlikely to feel threatened by us. No need! To worry on that score.

·         On internet, all websites are “equally visible”! on top of that, to draw more traffic, we have to get onto the FIRST result-page of Google / Yahoo / Bing,

·         Making us “more visible”! we have to be everywhere

·         on search engines

·         on video sites

·         on blogging sites

·         on e-zine sites

·         on social networking sites

·         On “Directories”!!

Pg. No. 101

·         All these are examples in “Physical Distribution” World-where, this strategy can work.

·         Again, in job-portals, the battlefield is ONLINE and cannot be “shifted”!

Pg. No. 103

·         It would be satisfying, if Customize Resume is headed to become a “Niche” job-portal, - with, may be 500 candidates registering every day vs. 10,000/ day claimed by BIG 3.

·         (16-08-10)

·         Our current rate of registration is 1/2 per day.

·         Finally went bankrupt (chapter II) sometimes in June 09.

·         Sold quite a few brands.

Pg. No. 104

·         In my promo emails & in my Classifieds Advts., at the bottom, I am writing:

·         [Jobs for All = Peace on Earth.]

Pg. No. 105

·         Typing this in Google, returned nearly 1.1 million links.

·         My blogs (carrying this), appeared

Ø  Once on Page 1

Ø  Twice on Page 2

Ø  Twice on Page 3

·         (16-08-10)

·         May be 12 months from today, I may get 5 mentions on first page.

Pg. No. 108

·         Naukri clams to be “India’s #1 jobsite” – and rightly too.

Pg. No. 109

·         What is the single most “differentiating” attribute of Customize-Resume?

·         Send a uniquely different resume to every recruiter in India – or around the world.

·         Q:-

·         Why would anyone want to send different version to different employers?

·         There is no evidence that sending differing “Versions” bring-in more interview-calls! On other hand, sending out 10,000 resumes (of same Version) to 10,000 recruiters, using free Resume-Blast, might get more interview-calls. If this does, a buzz might still start!

·         (16-08-10)

Pg. No. 110

·         You don’t need 306 million versions / combination of your resume but if you do, we will give you.

·         Recommendation System.

Pg. No. 111

·         Now, GM & Chrysler are gone.

Pg. No. 113

·         On India Recruiter website, I copied AVIS idea & said [“We do not claim to be No. 1 – only better”]

·         Sounded nice-but did not translate into traffic, despite being FREE!

·         But if you cannot be FIRST, then it is better to be “better”!

·         Success breeds success. Money brings in more money. More traffic will bring-in more traffic.

·         Q:

·         How do we over-come initial inertia and get the ball rolling? I am convinced this (overcoming initial resistance), cannot be done without spending offline advertising money.

·         (16-08-10)

·         See my notes on “Recommendation System”

Pg. No. 114

·         Challenge your friend – how many different ways can he customize his resume? Can he outnumber you?

·         Don’t go by what we say about customized resumes getting interview-calls. Just ask friends who sent their customized resumes to interviewers.

Pg. No. 115

·         Among your friends, who gets most interview-calls?

·         No surprise = the one who has the most customized versions of his resume.

·         I read it 3 years back.

·         What is THE PROBLEM we are facing right now? Not getting thousands of jobseekers to submit their resumes on India Recruiter (400 resumes in 2½ yrs.!) So we must adapt!

·         A person “customizes” himself (or herself) everyday by wearing different clothes. Would you go to the office everyday wearing the same dress?

Pg. No. 116

·         We implemented this, so far

Pg. No. 117

·         I have discussed with Shalala:

Ø  Embedding candidate’s name / PEN into each graph

Ø  Embedding “Attributes / Qualities of candidate” in each graph

Ø  Ability to enlarge any given graph to fill-up computer screen

Ø  Providing a “Palette” function to enable candidate to decide / select colours.

·         Customization is all about “re-arranging” individual graphical profiles generated into a thousand different combinations.

·         This is what I now propose to do, thru Task let assisted JAM. There are 400+ million low-end mobile set owners, who have never experienced internet.

·         Today’s paper talks of a survey which says, only 1 out of every 25 mobile owners, has used mobile to assess internet. It is obvious. Mobile is a poor device for “surfing”-but a great devise to deliver a 140 character JAM SMS!

·         17-08-10 (Bharti’s 73rd Birthday)

Pg. No. 118

·         Can “Customize-Resume.com” ever pose a threat to the BIG THREE? Could they have foreseen this change? Could they have anticipated? Or, is BIG the enemy of COOL?

·         I can’t see Customize Resume, posing any threat to the BIG 3! Nor JAM.

·         Even if JAM were to become wildly successful, BIG 3 are unlikely, to lose any business / market share. If it succeeds, JAM will create for us, an altogether NEW market.

·         (17-08-10)

·         Even those 20+ million city-based jobseekers, which are regularly search in for jobs on BIG 3, will they find JAM an “attractive alternative”?

Pg. No. 120

·         We plan to offer JAM for free to candidates. BIG 3 can do likewise (-if they are currently charging anything) without any difficulty. In any case, they get 99% of their income from their corporate subscribers.

·         (17-08-10)

·         Can we claim / advertise, “JAM is not job search”?

Pg. No. 121

·         Can we say:

·         “Customizing your resume is digitizing it. Plain text resumes are no better that celluloid films ready to become obsolete”.

·         I have put all these slogans on our website

·         Read “Marketing Myopia” by Theodore Levitt (1956?)

·         We must keep this in mind.

Pg. No. 123

·         In our library. His next one (BLINK) was terrible!

Pg. No. 124

·         Today, ILFS has suggested that Central Govt. come out with a single tender for 24 airport, spread all over the country and then select just one bidder to build all!

·         (15-08-09)

Pg. No. 125

·         Customize Your Resume – Amaze Interviewers – Get Job.

·         We have no marketing strategy-other than sending out thousands of emails daily! – Which, it seems, no one reads!

·         What is happening to India-Recruiter?

·         JAM is job alert on mobile

·         (17-08-09)

Pg. No. 126

·         “When you customize your resume, interviews follow.”

·         This is the perception we want to create in the minds of jobseekers.

·         If jobseekers start “associating” customization with Customize-Resume.com, it would mean Naukri / Monster / Thimesjobs will NOT be able to claim this word.

·         Within 9 months, typing

Ø  Customize Resume

Ø  Customize Resume

Ø  Customize Resume

·         In Google, gets us on 1st page!

·         (17-08-10)

Pg. No. 127

·         In “Customize-Resume.com”, we will try to combine

Ø  “Resume Parsing” technology

Ø  “Resume Rating” technology

Ø  “Graphing” technology

Ø  Customization

Ø  Incorporate (Docu-Birst &Text-Arc) see Visual Complexity.com

Ø  Highlight Keywords

Ø  MASH-UP with Google / Wikipedia Scours / One look etc.

Ø  Spidering (RSS) for Jobs & Resumes

Pg. No. 129

·         E.g.:

·         Dear Executive

·         You can either search for jobs on jobsites or you can pull-out your mobile and SMS [JAM – 5667771 – SEND]

·         (18-08-10)

Pg. No. 130

·         On our individual graphs (profiles), we have placed “Words” & “Numbers” to explain what the picture (i.e. graph) is supposed to be conveying.

·         E.g.:

·         Value (No. of people) between +16 -16 Total population etc.

·         VERY MUCH required because not every user is familiar with statistics.

Pg. No. 131

·         “Customize-Resume.com” is the NAME. Will the prospect think (say in his mind):

·         That is where you go if you want to customize resume

Pg. No. 132

Ø  Customize Your Resume

Ø  Amaze Interviewer

Ø  Get Job

·         There is no “rhyme”!

·         Conjures up a vision in mind.

·         Will JAM conjure-up the images of a JAM Session? A groovy affair?

·         (18-08-10)

Pg. No. 134

·         Google already launched Google TV last month

·         Google wants its presence on

Ø  Small mobile screen

Ø  Medium PC screen

Ø  Big TV screen

·         (18-08-10)

·         Already have.

Pg. No. 135

·         Will “Thimesjobs” come up with “Times Resumes”, for their own version of customized resumes?

·         I believe Naukri have come out with “FreshNaukri.com” for fresh graduates without experience.

Pg. No. 136

·         Sounds like us!

·         “Customized Resumes” could be an idea whose time has not come! But there is no why to know until we give it a try.

·         At least, it has not caught the fancy of the jobseekers, 9 months after the launch of CustomizeResume.com on 14 Nov. 2009

Pg. No. 138

·         This means, in the jobseeker’s mind, we have to create following “perception”:-

Ø  I am UNIQUE and therefore my resume must be UNIQUE

Ø  Recruiters will notice & read only CUSTOMIZED RESUMES because these are UNIQUE.

Ø  Only Customized Resumes will get Interview calls.

·         We have inserted all these slogans on our site.

Pg. No. 139

·         Naukri claim to have 18 million resumes! Monster & Thimesjobs make similar claims. And these are our “Prospective Customers”. How do we go about changing their perceptions?

Pg. No. 142

·         When we launch “Customize-Resume.com”, we may be “UNEXPECTED” (to do so) by the big three butt, what (if any) could be our (SINGLE BIG STROKE)?

Pg. No. 143

·         I suppose, if we parse 3 lakh resumes, create their “Function” Profiles, create individual page for each & then send out emails to all, asking them to CLICK HERE to “See Your Own Resume – then customize it to get a job”.

·         This could turn out to be our (SINGLE BIG STROKE)

·         (16-08-09)

·         It is futile to think: “what would Naukri do, if we were to become a runaway success?”

·         They will do whatever they believe they should do. And we must do, at every stage, what we think is the right thing to do.

·         Thereby implying that the rest are (“UNREAL”) or (FAKE) or COPYCAT) How can we put this to use? To establish ourselves as the “ONE & ONLY TRULY CUSTOMIZED RESUME”

Pg. No. 144

·         Will “Customize-Resume.com” occupy similar “generic” recall, when Recruiters ask for a “customized Resume” or a jobseeker thinks of sending his “customized Resume”? Will we “OWN” those 2 words?

·         When these 2 words are typed in Google, obviously our website figures on Page 1. But, not many people seem to be typing those words!

·         (18-08-10)

·         Without actually acquiring YAHOO, the did sign an agreement some 2/3 weeks age where by YAHOO / MS will show common search results & share advts. revenue

·         (16-08-09)

Pg. No. 146

·         It is entirely possible that customized resumes could remain, just a “riche” market. Time will tell.

·         Went bankrupt a few months back.

·         Also went bankrupt

·         About to come out with an IPO.

·         Managed to survive (at least for now) without US Govt. bailout.

Pg. No. 147

·         This is our main problem.

·         Continues.

·         But should JAM click we could we could raise venture capital.

·         JAM (thru Task let) is my last hope!

·         (18-08-10)

Pg. No. 148

·         If, helped by Task let, JAM becomes a success, is there a distant possibility that H-P itself can take a stake in Recruit Guru? Could they want Recruit Guru to “Succeed”, so as to establish their task let technology? Tomorrow, we have a teleconference with HP team.

·         (18-08-10)

Pg. No. 150

·         Over the last 7/8 years, 3P’s operations have “Subsidized” and enabled Recruit Guru to keep experimenting. I hope, someday soon, this “investment in future” pays off.

Pg. No. 151

·         Already passed a few months back.

Pg. No. 152

·         The year I first went to USA (Sept. 55= Uni. Of Illinois) Champaign / Urbana.

Pg. No. 153

·         Once “Customize-Resume.com is launched, we will take down “IndiaRecruiter.net” & redirect visitors who type “IndiaRecruiter.net”

·         I did not takedown India Recruiter. Some 25/30 people still visit it daily and every week 5/6 copies of Resume Rater gets downloaded. If customize Resume gets huge traffic, then, one by one, we will incorporate into it, some of the useful features of India Recruiter.

·         (18-08-10)

Pg. No. 154

·         Never got an Interview-Call, despite posting your plain text resume on leading job-portals?

·         Give yourself a break! Customize Your Resume! Keep your cell-phone charged!

Pg. No. 155

·         The natural corollary to naming our next website “Customize-Resume.com” is that those jobseekers who not care (or want) to customize their resumes will avoid us. But those who have submitted their resumes on the BIG THREE but failed to get even a single Interview call so far, should, certainly want to experiment with us. That no. could be millions!!

·         If and when, jobseekers do flock to CR for JAM, it will not be because, we have more / better jobs but because, we can save “time” and offer to jobseekers unprecedented “convenience”

·         (18-08-10)

Pg. No. 156

·         This time, we are taking extra care to make the “Shopping Experience” better for the jobseekers when they are submitting their resumes.

1.    Breaking-up “Submit Resume” Form into several, smaller MODULES, each of which can be filled in independently at leisure over a period of time. Incremental Submission.

2.    Providing SAMPLE GRAPH links, in each module for jobseekers to see how their own graph will work, it they take trouble to provide required DATA.

3.    Select from 4 different currencies (Rs. / $ /₤ / €) while providing SALARY data. Our S/W will do the conversion.

I don’t know whether this is working!

4.    Parsing of text resume, the moment it is pasted, to fill-up STRUCTRED FORM for “Contact Details”. Jobseeker will only need to EDIT (Time-Saving).

We have to rewrite entire code of Guru Mine.

5.    Customization

6.    Activating of PERSONAL AGENT.

Pg. No. 158

·         This is the title of my recent promo email to jobseekers.

Pg. No. 160

·         There is only one website where you can customize your resume:

·         www.Customize-Resume.com

·         Have you come across another? Silly question!!

Pg. No. 161

·         What to customize your resume? You can do it only at www.Customize-Resume.com

·         I have placed all these slogans on Customize Resume. It does not seem to have helped!

·         If we get a large no. of jobseekers to customize their resumes, corporate subscribers will follow.

·         Somehow (due to unflattering FUNCTION graphs, showing LOW PERCENTILE score?) our free Resume Blast feature never took-off in a big way. I had counted on this feature to do our “publicity”. I hope this will click with “Customized Resume”. Could “Customized Resume” become a “Self-fulfilling Prophesy”? Just because, a jobseeker has NOW got a “Customized Resume”, would he feel compelled to send it across to hundreds of corporates? – To announce his UNIQUENESS?

Pg. No. 162

·         Obviously no celebrity is going to customize his resume on our website / nor is he in need of a job! And there is no way to prove that:-

·         As compared to plain text resumes, customized resumes get – [X] % more interview-calls! But if these guys start getting calls, then a landslide effect can develop! They will generate tremendous BUZZ!

Pg. No. 164

·         All in our library.

Pg. No. 177

·         India Recruiter – Can only Create Profiles

·         Customized-Resume – Create Profiles + Customized Profiles

·         So, why should any jobseeker want to go to India Recruiter?

·         For us this is “Page Layout” / User Interface – which we must improve.

·         By pushing out most of the links into Site Map, we have considerably improved home page of India Recruiter. We have done even better in Customized Resume and already planning to improve U/I still further

·         (19-08-10)

Pg. No. 178

·         Without waiting for America, I have gone ahead and adopted this message as my BRAND. All my blogs-and even 2/3 emails that I write daily to candidates / corporates – carry this slogan. And it is paying off by showing up my blogs on the first page of Google, if you type this.

·         (19-08-10)

·         America gives maxim aid to Pakistan but its image is the worst there. The aid is for buying military hardware (from abroad) and doses not Pakistan’s economy or its ordinary people.

·         (19-08-10)

Pg. No. 179

·         How about (“Jobs for All = Pace on Earth”)

·         If America can go out and create “jobs” all over the world, they would have the strongest BRAND! If they help other countries to create JOBS, then the purchasing power of the people of these countries would go up.

·         In turn, they would buy more American goods!

·         (16-08-09)

·         Become a “Super-Creator” rather than a “Super-Power”.

Pg. No. 180

·         He has done a few good things but with 2/3 banks failing every week for last 70 weeks, he has little latitude to act.

·         May be Obama will do things differently.

·         Jobs for All = Peace on Earth.

Pg. No. 182

·         “When you customize You Resume, You enhance your Image”.

Pg. No. 183

·         Opposite: “Customized Resumes make Winners”

Pg. No. 187

·         Today, we had a very productive, one-hour telephonic conference with HP Lab tram (SiteOnMobile.com). They appreciate various “Concept Notes” sent to them over the last 4 weeks and sounded very keen to help us make JAM a success. This seems like a very good beginning of – what I hope – a corrabotive venture.

·         (19-08-10)

·         I am now hopeful that, we will be able to launch JAM by this month-end, at least for our “registered” candidates. Could this be “light at the end of the tunnel”?

Pg. No. 188

·         Individuals and companies are still working on these!

Pg. No. 189

·         Without bothering to “predict” the consequences (as to what might happen to “Customize-Resume” or to our competitors), we will still try to incorporate the “concepts” of – Dou-Burst – Text Arc (visual-complexity.com)

Pg. No. 190

·         May be “to-day”, neither jobseekers nor recruiters are bothered about

Ø  Converting text resumes into Analytical Graphs

Ø  Customizing Resumes by Shuffling those graphs

Ø  Raw score / Percentile score

Ø  Arranging Resume Search Results in descending order of scores

Ø  Highlighting keywords and fetching Wikipedia definitions when clicking those keywords etc. etc.

·         But candidates have shown definite interest in being able to blast their resumes (111,319 have been blasted in last 5/6 months).

·         When JAM gets launched by and of this month, we will also know whether candidates like it. If they do, maybe we can create a Taskelt for even blasting their resumes, using their mobile phones.

·         (20-08-10)

Pg. No. 192

·         When we deliver JAM we will only provide

Ø  Company (Advertiser) Name

Ø  Position advertised

Ø  Location (city)

·         These ads will “match” the Primary Function / Skill of each candidate. This is utterly, minimally simplified Job Advt. we are “putting forward” this to the candidates. Will that mean, “Saving them the labour of interpreting long job-descriptions found in job-advts.-and figuring out whether this match their own experience / background”? Will they treat JAM as an expert “advice” from us and simply SMS “Apply”?

·         (20-08-10)

·         Are they blasting away their resumes thru “Resume Blast” because, it does not involve “thinking”?

·         JAM is “News” / requires little thinking!

Pg. No. 194

·         (17-08-09)
