WHAT WOULD GOOGLE DO? - JEFF JARVIS

====================================================================================

When I read any book, I scribble my comments / notes in the margins

These reflect my views / opinions about what the author is saying – including my disagreement

Often, my comments are in the nature of telling myself :

Hey ! We should try out this idea in our own business ( Head-hunting / Online Recruitment )

Following are my comments re :

WHAT WOULD GOOGLE DO? - JEFF JARVIS

=====================================================================================

Page no 3

·         In idiarecuriter, “poll-e-ticks” has not clicked! Nor “share your knowledge “we goods up somewhere.

Page no 4

·         I am still hoping, to someday, launch.

·         Www. resumes Exchange.Com

·         A Network of all Recruiter. Counters opened our site.

Page no 6

·         With every candidate registering on customize Resume, percentile-scores of all registered candidates change. Someday, we will continuously compute.

·         Keyword weightages and also change everyone’s RAW score as well

·         Jobseekers, who want s resumes full of GRAPHS, may also be such a NICHE.

Page No 11

1)    FREE Resume  blast

2)    Free downloading of corp. email ID “

3)    Power  to customize Resumes by next week

4)    Who viewed my Resume? When?

·         All these “giving people control”?

·         My be. But we will need to do much more.

Page no 25

·         I have yet to figure out how to use permalink & trade back.

Page no 26

·         In world wide-jobs, we had “JAWAS” & JAS” a summary of jobs in a tabular fashion which any newspaper can get as email every morning & ready to paint.

Page no 27

·         Some 3 years ago, we started graphical resumes in India Recruiter then on 14/11/2009,we launched customize Resume where we continued with “ customized graphs” this is our niche it will work even it we get just 100.000 candidates. To adroit so far, we are the only website offering this.

Page no 28

·         After 6 months ‘of posting comments on other peoples ‘blogs, I have acquired “links” as follows.

·         Blogs of he-men parekh ---280000

·         He-men parekh says ------ 400000

·         Next week priya will start –work on our own “Recommendation system” for job seekers & Recruiters based on click stream Analysis of job searches / Resume searches.

Page no 29

·         Although I am right now in Ahmedabad, I got Alex to register our site with “Google  Webmaster Tool” (-which he did )-and found some “suggestions” from Google on  how to in prove  our website it will send a detailed reporting ½ days.

·         My concept behind globel Recruiter Recruiter was quite similar we launched it 4 yrs. ago – than down.

·         This is my idea behind www. Resumes Exchange.com but before we must get 100.000/ resumes on curentsite   as a SEED.

Page no 30

·         In globel Network, I had planned to recover from franchisee jobsites, only 20% of whatever they earned for providing / platform / techno logy / content (jobs & Resumes/)

·         May be Globel Recruiter ^& Resumes Exchange will contradict each other!

Page no 31

·         So far, we have kept our services “free” for both jobseekers & recruiters Q: How long can we sustain of?

Page no 32

·         Job portal is one of the relist platforms (jobseekers & Recruiters we launched 3pjobs.com on 14/11/1197.

 Page no 33

·         “Google places” have 3 million companies form India alone in last 6 months.

Page no 34

·         We have long planned to use maps, to pin pant locations of 1) job postings 2) jobseekers & then “match” the two!

·         There is so much to do. But so little time!

Page no 39

·         My, proposed, Resumes Exchange.com will be a “closed” network of companies /Recruitment Agencies holding millions of resumes on their hard disks.

·         In Jan 2005. We launched world-wide –jobs.com one of its features was.

·         Jas = job Advt.summary

·         Nearly 25 newspapers registered. Registered to receive (as a tabulated Excel sheet of job Advt) daily emails. Then they printed these in there newspaper.

·         While registering, they could configure the “composition” of the job-Advt, they would like to receive. Of course, this FEED was available to ANYONE, even an individual, who may want to take a print-out make photocopies 2 distribute in the neighborhood. WE were to approach cybercafés. We will reintroduce this in customizeResume.com

Page no 40

·         Today, I gave to Alex & priya a copy each of “50 ways to make GOOGLE love website” It is a MUST read for all web-designers & webmasters.

Page no 42

·         I am still working for a method whereby I can get GOOGLE to index ALL of our job-Advt & resumes.

Page no 43

·         These days (after 3 yrs. of posting free classifieds and 6 month of posting “comments”) I have between 2000 to 40.000 mentions in Google depending upon search term sued.

Page no 45

·         On “latest Resumes” page we have a column for “view count” (No-of times resume got viewed). Someday, we will have a separate page for “most viewed Resumes” a wangled in descending order of “view count”

Page no 48

·         We have made a small beginning with:

1)    No: of online visitor

2)    No : of  visitors on “ Resume Blast” page next

3)    No.of visitors on All pages

4)    Names of who are on this page

5)    An online CHAT ROOM for exchanging views / questions.

6)    For  jobseekers – A”SUNRVEY” of job Advertisers” RANKING (Best / worst place to work for )

7)    Click stream Analysis—what kind of job, jobseekers are searching? (Wisdom of crowd) what kind of candidates is recommendation system re cruiters searching?

8)    Most viewed jobs / Reserves.

Page no 49

·         We have already, 2 communities to work with, Vis

·         We have other our site as a “platform” for them to talk to each other and amongst themselves

Page no 51

·         Will jobseekers belonging to SAME city, start a “customize Resume club “? First “online “on our site them “offline “in someone’s homes? What kind of plat FROM do we need to provide ONLINE?

Page no 53

·         In India Recruiter, we had a provision where visitors (anyone at all) can type his “opinion / vievrs”- about our website. A few did .but it failed to “catch-up”

·         Our message was:

·         “If you have anything to say about our SITE M- do- whether good / bad “

·         Some did provide negative opinion but it was a kind of “monologue”- a one-way communication- not a dialogue.

Page no 58

·         This is also getting to be so in Joe-portals .there is hundreds / thousands of these. Some are Region-specific some are counters –specific and a few have jobs & resumes from all over the world. Most bog companies are posting their advert on several portals most jobseekers are posting their resumes on several portals so there is some duplication but there is no portal where you can find ALL the jobs and ALL the resumes of the world!

·         Probably there will never be one. But can any job search, on ANY jobprotals, bring you the most relevant results? By searching / spearing /ALL jobprotals of the world?  Work trying.

Page no 59

·         We stared “aggregating” job-Advt (by initially “spearing”) in idiarecuriter, some A years back, then in customize Resume, we switched to RSS feeds from job-portals. When, last week we started to remove the duplicates, the total no. of adverts. Fell from 300.000 to just 70.000 the happened when jobseekers getting daily job-alert, complained of duplicates!

Page no 64

·         We are finding “(Rfeeds) jon-advrts from job-portals “aggregating” (removing duplicates)

·         And –extending” i.e.-representing these ads in a NEW ways (magic cube search / jog Alert etc.)

·         No doubt, in course of time, we will get RSS feeds from many more websites AND in true we will ourselves provide to other websites, RSS feeds from our “Aggregated database. These may not even be jobsites! These could even be mobile VAS providers, TV channels, Newspapers etc.

Page no 65

·         Airtel (the largest mobile service provider of India, with, maybe 180 million subscribers) is making job Alerts SMS available @ Rs.-10/= per alert. I want to start offering at 10 pause per alert or even FREE!

·         Jo breaker (-and of course, Recruiters) who take a fancy for graphical resumes, would always remain a “niche”

Page no 66

·         Tata sky (a DTH TV provider) has a “jobs channel” I suppose, other DTH providers are watching.

·         As soon as we launch “who viewed my resume? When? “Jobseekers will get to know, if their “actions” (are producing any (commensurate/) “Re-actions” on part of the recruiters.

Page no 67

·         Google “aggregates” any & every type of “content “we only “aggregate” Avery niche/ specific type of content Vis: job-adverts and job-seekers don’t’ care! Now we must add many more “sources’

Page no 69

·         To some extent job-portals too, work like this there is always a “GAP” between DEMANDS & SUPPLY. If there is a downturn, resulting in FEW jobs, there will be a lot of jobseekers posting resumes & searching jobs on a portal. But if economy picks up and competent candidates are difficult to find Recruiters will flood the portals with jobAdvts & conduct lots of Resume searches. Father way, there is always a lot of ACTION no jobprotals.

·         A job-portal is a platform for jobseekers & Recruiters But can there be a “platform” for job-portals themselves? a platform from where smaller / regional job-portals can borrow-resumes ( for their local corporate clients)  job-adverts ( “    “ jobseekers)  ?

Page no 72

·         Rohan –our own “Recommendation system” will accumulate the “clicks” which jobseekers & Remitters make while searching for jobs & resumes ESP. A “history” of past “selections” of the search criteria As soon as a person way in the drop lists, wills get re arrayed (descending order of past selection) second step what they opened viewed after searching.

·         Third step what they APPLIED // down loaded after viewing/ opening (a job or a resume)

Page no 74

·         Job-portals too, are a kind of “middleman” could they too disappear one day? Will recruiter and job-seekers find & talk to each other on “social” portals? Job-portals do.

·         Facilitate the “finding” part-are designed for  that may be need to add is the “talking to each other part”

·         We tried this in 3pjobs way back in 1997.

Page no 75

·         In India, job mantra.com has a “what salary can I expect? Application. In USA it is salary.com

·         When we start delving job-alert on candidate’s mobile, coition mobile, coition seconds of a job advert getting posted, it is very likely that he may want to be the first to apply! For fear of others stealing a march over him!

Page no 76

·         Read “marketing myopia” by Tea Levitt.

·         We can afford to keep customziResume “free” –if we can make money from AdSense or   some other online source.

·         We can afford to keep customize Resume “free” – if we can make money from AdSense or some other online source.

Page no 77

·         Read book “FREE” in our laboring. I forest author‘s name (Anderson: refer p: 79)

·         For India Recruiter we accumulated 34 lakh job-Advt & another 3 lakh by now for customize Resume. What can we do with this “Archive “? Can we use it to statically ore did “who will advertise for what jobs and when? “Will anyone be in enters? Will it half companies’ Recruiters managers?

Page no 79

·         It is impossible for Naukri to stop charging hefty annual subscriptions to its corporate. Subscribers. Last year, Naukri earned Rs- 360 crores from snburiotions.

·         They will read to find advert Nate source of income which won’t be easy at least in short team.

·         Only days back Ryan Air announced plans to introduce, “standing passenger concept for & 5/.

·         Rohan in WWJ we were delivering job Alert on mobile and mobile and “apply-online’” directly from mobile.

Page no 80

·         On our site as well, we are “organizing” job-Advt downloaded from Naukri / times job / click jobs someday we must use hundreds. Of sources.

Page no 81

·         Read my notes /uI on Resumes Exchanging .com (I have even booked this URL) we should become a platform for jobseekers & recruiters. With RSS feeds, our problem is to “MAP” the job-Advt & “normal “them into a standard database maybe we should   give-up that approach and switch over to Google’s approach to spearing & “indexing” of job-Advt. From thousands of websites. We can give them “RAM scores” (just like for resumes) and arrange the search results in the descending order of RAW SCROES (relevance)

Page no 82

·         Read “communicating for Productivity” I could have called it. “My experiments at building. Trust”

Page no 83

·         In India, 100% of people would say that!

Page no 84

·         Jarvis should read “paradox of choices”

Page no 87

·         In a CHAT forum I Presume People Transact (talk / share) view with each other, out trust.

·         Recommend action system.

Page no 88

·         We need feedback from our users. But how? We got just 15/16 “Ratings” over  a period of 3/12 years in our “ rate vs  now “ poll in India Recruiter !

·         In our library. Rohan 1 sat there? Google has a tool for this freely available to all websites.

Page no 89

·         e are asking jobseekers to other “Resume Title” but do we use this in anyway? Rg”: Resume search OR for “job Alert”?

·         View” count for our Resumes.

Page no 93

·         I would too, if it was a’ “physical” product and not a digital first India Recruiter of the it’s graphical profiles next CustmizeResume.

Page no 97

·         Read “communicating for productivity”

·         Our “site statistics” counters tell the whole story about  our-site move will be  added in months to  come read my file” Reputation system”

Page no 98

·         Someday, I want to share our source-co de with public and let than improve upon it,

Page no 102

·         AT the bottom of all of my “comments” (on other people’s blogs) and my promo emails, I write jobs for ALL = Peace on Earth.

Page no 103

·         Last evening, around 5.30 p.m. we uploaded a new page on our website, titled “Google loves us” this morning at 4.30 am I  typed in Google’s  search –bar, “ Google loves us “ ( without inverted commas) and got 13.32 million results, where our page was listed at no = 18 by 10.30 am, page had moved to position #  3! Right now, it is at # 2 (0.17 second)

·         We have been around only 8/2 months!  So may be our position clescribed on reverse, may slip!

Page no 106

·         We are planning to add a CHAT / Forum on Our Site – Where I Can Join In.

·         AVL .IN our library.

Page no 111

·         Read “Marketing myopia” by ted levied.

Page no 115

·         However “Google webmaster central “pages are anything but simple!

Page no 125

·         Our UNOQUE ness may lie in jobs aggregation not links aggregation cha bling candidates to APPLY FROM one site. We do.

Page no 124

·         Yesterday I sent email to www. Siteonmobile.cpm ( HP INDIA LAB)- to give us “access” to their “ task lets”  which would enable us to deliver job- Alert SMS TO job-sealers  even on low end ordinary mobile phones. If they agree, it would create new importunity.

·         Today site mobile sent email accepting to give us task let for sms! Greet!!

·         Monster / Naukri/ times jobs ctc corporate websites internet TV mobile.

Page no 126

·         Times of India / Hindu / statesman / other big newspapers have launched their own websites – where they host “job Advt” which appear in their PRINT editions, BUT, WE might still be able to persuade smaller newspapers to upload  their job- Advt  on our site in turn we will provide RSS feeds daily JAS type  emails of job-ads to all of them.

·         Global Recruiter was my idea of such a network.

Page no 127

·         When we introduced JAS (job Advt. summary) in WWJ we invited cyber cafes- even unemployed graduate’s- to subscribe (FREE) get daily Email Feeds print out & “ sell” to- day’s  job-Advt supplements in neighborhood. In our case “job Advt” Hash up what we are doing.

·         In wwj / Jas, Some 25 Small- Town Newspapers From remote corner of India – were daily getting tabulated job-Advt   & printing we will most certainly revive this someday soon.

Page no 128

·         Free s/w Applica Tran is available which show website traffic data on Google map. I also intend to offer “Jobsearach” & “RESUME SEARCH “which are geo locational may be on Google map.

Page no 129

·         It was same story in ALL sectors of US economy.

Page no 130

·         Reeuriters in India, are already posting their job-Advt on Naukri / monster / time jobs / click job / job street Oct. / they don’t want to post jobs on one more site (ours) so we will have to “collect” these ads from these sites so me how / CRSS/ feeds spearing / stripping / then mapping to our database for re- distribution to 1) other job- site 2) new pepper 3) TV channels 4) mobiles 5) pc etc. 6) FM-radio ?

Page no 131

·         To deliver job Alert sms to candidates in 2005, wwj. / jam/ had to depend upon the “Existing” networks of mobile services Provides it did not work-out because msp showed little internet to promote JAM (job Alert on mobile) may be HP India labs, “task lets” will enables to create our own network by passing msp: obviously those who wish to receive “targeted job-alert will need to give us their resumes 2) their job-preferences.

Page no 132

·         View cont.” (No of times this resume got viewed) is an indeed “vote of the recruiters about a resume, I could display this in the “descending order” (most viewed Reswes)

·         If we display “most view Resumes” will those whose resumes appear at the top of the table talk to their friends to visit & Backup Quite Likely.

Page No 137

·         MY comments are rarely meant for the Author- nor for general public  at large, But , I wish I could get all of my website developers to be able to read my comments .

Page no 138

·         Can I make such “remarks / comments “it iam riding a “digital book” on a e- book ready? It would be horrible if I have to “type” comments.

Page no 143

·         I read (hard copy costing = rs- 1000) bill gate’s “Business @ speed of thought “about 7/8 ago I never understood, why he did not give it away FREE on micros opts website! Surely, he did not need money!!

Page no 145

·         I have said many times that our job-portal (and of course, all job- portals) is in “ADVERTISING” bushiness corporates advertise their “vacancies” and candidates advertise “Themselves” (Thru Resume- which are a kind of advertisement)

·         Problem is = we are all owing both to advertise for FREE / so no revenue for! Where’s, while talking to Google ad wards representative today, I found that, if someone clicks on my sponsored Advert ( -and visits my site), I end-up paying Google, RS – 8/10 !! That could translate into RS- 1000/= To Acquire Each Resume!

Page no -149

·         When corporates conduct “Resume Search “on our site search-results are displayed in the descending order of RAW score i.e. best  resumes, are on TOP , we too, are a “ Relevance Engine “ for resumes.

Page no 153

·         Not what “chef Recommends” but what other “diners” recommend. Our own Recommendation. System (for both, jobseekers & recruiters) will be along this line.

·         Some jobprotals already have such a system:

1)    Candidates who “ viewed” this job-Advt, also viewed

2)    Recruiter     =   =   =   “Resume”

Page no 154

·         Our own online experience with “poll- e- Ticks and “share your knowledge” is miserable! May be such things just don’t work in India.

Page no 158

·         Lockup our page “Google loves us” up loaded 5/6 days ago. I am myself at our site’s ran king on 24 search times!

Page no 159

·         Our “statistics counters” give data about our site to all visitors ultimately, there will so many I Envisage   a separate “site statistics” page: something which no job-portal does.

Page no 162

·         Yesterday, I Sent an Email to Sridhar Sunshade - Head online sales- Google India -to help us increase traffic to our website- without resorting to Google Ad words, for which, we have no funds!

Page no 164

·         Is that / Google- the people or GOOGLE – the Algorithm?

·         Could it be that Google’s? Algorithm likes our “statistics counters”?

Page no 165

·         In my file “jobseeker’s counter” I have envisaged capturing entire “CAREER HISTORY” of each registered jobseeker on “my page”

Page no 166

·         Today HP ( lac) India  agreed to let us use their Task let for  job-alert sms on mobiles of  job-seekers with 600 million mobile owners in India this development offers  a  unique poor utility to  enable these mobile- owners to  “ access “our website- without a pc/ internet ! Andree’s 18th Birthday brought good news!!

Page no 167

·         I have registered A complaints to TATA SKY in last 10 days!

·         See remarks on opposite page can we disrupt the business models of Naukri Times jobs monster?

Page no 168

·         May be I should start something like this for TATA SKY!

Page no 179

·         Using HP’s task lets ( site on moblie.com )  if we succeed in enabling jobseekers to “ access” their job-alert page ( -and of course, Apply online ) , then our next attempt will be to enable them to access “ registration” page & similar  their resumes from mobiles !

Page no 184

·         Nirmit has similar experience

Page no 190

·         I was just looking at Google Analytics and was surprised to find that some 3 people reached CustmizeResume, using searchteram “he-men”!

·         What is quall surprising that typing “he-men in Google returned 33.5 million links and customize Resume was at the 4th place!! May be because some 16000 of my blogs which Google has induced carry, at the he-men parekh.

Page no 214

·         In our site, we have institutionalized this by, making a hyperlink of shows Google results! Someday we will make “Eddo.  Institute name” clickable.     Which will the of the college’s website.

Page no 215

·         Prof. Mischief. Who taught advanced maths at uni of Kansas (1958) used to say?

·         The only education work its name is self-education.
