====================================================================================

When I read any book, I scribble my comments / notes in the margins

These reflect my views / opinions about what the author is saying – including my disagreement

Often, my comments are in the nature of telling myself :

Hey ! We should try out this idea in our own business ( Head-hunting / Online Recruitment )

Following are my comments re :

·         Now that Nandan is heading the National Indentity.

·         A shining example is of train ticket-booking online. I still remember the hornov of 4 hours standing in a queue at Bombay Central.

Pg. No. 27

·         Narendra Modi

Pg. No. 30

·         At this stage, it is unimportant to “Justify” what were our “good policies” of the past and to “blame” our past leaders for their “failure” to adopt “progressive” steps!!

·         It is “what-under-the-bridge”. You cannot UN-DO past!

·         That is below 18 yrs.

·         I canot forget his lucid booklet “Our India” (Gujarati translation) – which I read around 1942. He interviewed me for a job in his consultancy firm in 1958, upon returning from USA.

·         In early 70’s, wheneve I visited a Govt. office in Delhi, (Say around 11 am), half-the-staff would be sitting around & gossiping on the lawns outside the office. Most would make their “attendance”, then leare their coats hanging on their chairs and go out for working on “private errands” or even another job! – to return befor closing time.

·         When I was GM (Powai) at L & T between 1979-78, we paid an incentive of Rs. 300/= to any worker under-going a sterilizetion operation at our Andheri Welfare Centre. We even paid to general public – and at peak, carried out 1800+ operations in one year! – to win Maha. Govt. Prizw!! Companig were expected to display corporate social Responsibility!!

·         At that time, I was a strong supporter advocate of such measures.

Pg. No. 46

·         But still, thousands of children continue to die every year due to “mal-nutrition”! – euphemism for “starvation”.

·         I don’t think it has kept pace with inflation or rise in cost of living.
