A GENIE’S WISDOM – JACK TROUT

====================================================================================

When I read any book, I scribble my comments / notes in the margins

These reflect my views / opinions about what the author is saying – including my disagreement

Often, my comments are in the nature of telling myself :

Hey ! We should try out this idea in our own business ( Head-hunting / Online Recruitment )

Following are my comments re :

==================================================================================

Page No. 10

·         What is the Product of WWJ? Is it ImageBuider? No! JAM is our product (really our service delivering job alerts on a mobile and enabling Apply Online from mobile to that is our product or service. That is the star of our movie.

·         This “method” of delivering job alerts and of “Applying online” is what different ides JAM from any similar service, currently available.

·         Conducting job searches on hundreds of jobsites daily is a problem –and that is what JAM solves,

Page no = 11

·         We too, targeting “non –internet –savvy” jobseekers, who don’t know the existence of hundreds of jobsites, nor know the many different & clever “keywords” with which to search for jobs on these jobsites, for such millions of jobseekers, JAM “improvers” the process of job searching” making it very simple.

Page no = 12

·         Right now JAM has neither any “sales” nor any “money” so question of “% age” does not even arises! ALL I can afford at the moment is to send out those 40 emails! And hope that mobile services providers would spend the money to promote JAM amongst their subscribers,

Page no = 13

·         As of now no one knows it exits! You bet. I don’t’ know to prepare one! None Delivery method. We have only one may be jobseekers. Are getting ferry” job alerts-butanes emails on their pc:

·         If jam clicks India way and we make good money I plan to place very small Ad on Front Pages of A Few Newspapers that is all.

Page no = 14

·         I would depend upon Godsons book “unleashing idea virus” for creating awareness” thru

·         HR consultants

·         HR managers

·         Editors / journalists.

·         Authors of mktg.books

·         Websites / search engines.

·         Business magazine.

Page no = 16

·         For “info=based” products like JAM, networking with owners of “Delivery channels” (mobile Service providers) is absolutely a “must” they are not mere delivery channels. They are also JAM’S Marketing allies and “payment collations mechanisms” as well. I have no for either! But JAT (job Alert on TV) will follow JAM except that once again Mobile service providers will be at the center of the Network and make even more money thru JAT.

·         It Is My Intention to Continuously “Invent” more & more features, which will enable MSPE: to make more & more money! This is very important for durable thresh partnership.

Page no = 17

·         Delivering job alerts on a mobile. Apply online” from mobile.

Page no = 24

·         For many months to come, we will centime to write: JAM (job Alert mobile) till JAM gets etched into jobseekers’ minds.

·         Delivering job-alerts on mobile is the “product benefit”.

Page no = 26

·         “World –wide-jobs are jobbing Nirvana”? Baton WWJ / homepage, we also say: “where jobs come searching for you –on your mobile”// “where you apply online with single click-on your mobile” thediffevence, Delivering jobless differently.

Page no = 27

·         But I strongly feel that launching of RecruitGuru.com after 1 year would “complement” the JAM brand –by enabling HR mgrs. To uploaded & search Image Builders on Recruit Guru & therefore INSIST that jobseekers use JAM!

Page no = 28

·         So, obviously, if we continue delivering job-alerts as E- mails, then it will erode JAM! WHO’S MAIN DIFFERNTIATING FACTORE IS “Delivery on mobile”!

Page no = 30

·         In JAT, job-alerts (really speaking, job-advts) will get-delivered to a jobseeker on a TV (JOB CHANNEL) but the “Resume Delivering” But then, why JAT / job channel?!   I will make a separate note of justification. In a few days.  Our product attributes is “Delivery on mobile/ Apply online from mobile.

 Page no =36

·         Will our copycat competitor, also call his product JAC- job-Alert on cellphone? Quite likely. Jobsites, currently, are alerts as emails. Delivering on mobile, constitute a mere improvement? Group of customers remain same!

Page no = 37

·         Can I define our product category as “JAM on Airtel” or “JAM on TATA indicom? Then, of course, I would be the only ONE!

·         For JAM, will it be monster India or Naukri?

·         Some years later Jack abandoned those Sub Managers-In- Order to meet this criteria – started defining their “product categories” so narrowly. That in each case, they would Ans up being FIRST! E.g.: “2 refrigerators for skims”!

Page no = 38

·         When JAM gays launched in next 10/15 days, I hope everyone would want to try it out because fits. NEW.

Page no = 44

·         For WWJ / JAM, It Would Be Unwise to “Reduce” prices (tariff) when copycat competitors appear on the horizon. A far better (pricing) strategy. Would be to keep the prices quite low right from the beginning,  it would translate in to . Erecting “Entry BARRIERS” for potential competitors an enormous “customer –base” which gets “locked” in.

Page no = 45

·         Jobsites make all their money from their corporate clients. We will make all our money from jobseekers. So, we are not attacking jobsites and they cannot attack us.

·         BPL / TATA talked about Rs. 5/- per premium SMS but I could convince Mr. Kuldeep Goyal to keep it at Rs.3/- I would like to lower it still more with Airtel may be.

·         Big question still remains, whether a 160 character jobalert SMS would carry the Essential info, to convince a jobseeker to click Apply Online!

Page No. 47

·         A normal sms, today costs between Rs. 0.50/1.00 so, jobseekers may be willing to pay Rs. 2.00 for a premium SMS.

·         If JAM volumes become very large, even at low prices, profits could still be high & attract competitors.

·         We don’t have Govt. problem in India.

Page No. 48

·         To keep competitors out, we must keep low price to begin with. Once we have millions of job seekers locked in and also MSPs locked in we can gradually raise the price.

Page No. 56

·         We must focus on delivering relevant job-alerts to jobseekers needs. If we succeed in that, Volumes/growth/revenue/profits/market – share etc. will follow.

·         I don’t think we will need to go public for a long time. So no need to worry ablout market price of our stock.

Page No. 70

·         Many years ago ( may be 30), I read a book about “ Theory of cognitive Dissonance. It said, after you have bought let us say a Sony MP 3 player – you start looking out for others who have bought the same product. This is to comfort yourself with the knowledge that this product is in great demand and therefore, you made a right choice!!

·         So, success of JAM will depend upon, how the first few hundred / thousand of people take to it and upon how others around them get influenced by these Early Adopters.

Page No. 71

·         When jobseekers start getting jobalerts on their mobile and start Applying from their mobiles will they atleast compare JAM with jobsearch on Monster/Naukri etc?

Page No. 72

·         Where JAM differs from Jobsites is in its Method of delivery over a mobile and of course being able to applu online on the spot from mobile.

·         No need for a pc/ Internet! Wirefree!

·         Will jobseekers perceive this freedom this convenience as a big deal?

Page No. 73

·         This will be particularly so with Jam Nothing like this has ever existed before!

·         With his money he could afford to ! unless you have a dream, how can you translate into reality?

·         Do people know what they want?

·         I don’t think this is the last word on ITV no one can forsee future!

Page no.80

·         Don’t Waste your time, searching for jobs let jobs come searching for you whenecer you happen to be!

·         Current TV advt of Naukri has sick humour! It could recoil.

Page No. 81

·         World-wide-jobs.com No.1 but not a jobsite.

Page No. 101

·         For a similar reason, sakura (Photo – films) changed to Konica (since sakura flowers fade out their once bright colours.

·         Who wants to buys film that will fade?

·         Coke on this line underneath the word, coco-cola spent some 250 million dollars inearly 1970s.

Page No. 103

·         In a hot country like India, you need cool colors, such as pastle blue/ Green.

Page No. 110

·         Wheras the revenue share offered ny MSps 25%-30% is not veryhigh, we must not succumb to the temtation to setup our own SMS server & deliver JAM directly to jobseekers so that we can keep entire 100% of revenue.

·         I would rather continue with MSPs but get them to share 25% with jobsites from ehere we down load jobs. It is better to have, all partners in our network satisfied & Profitable.

·         This is also the reason we should deliver thru MSps as many new features as possible eg. Salary profiles so that they can make more money.
